Radio wiring different than everywhere on the web says it is.

I own a 1999 Ford Explorer, XLT, 4dr, 4wd.
I'm putting in a new CD player (along with amps and such, but that's already figured out) and I was about to buy the female version of the radio wiring harness when I noticed that there was one for standard and one for the special sound system with a ford amp somewhere in the car. So, I pulled the radio out and looked to see what I had, and mine's totally different than either of the wiring harneses, which showed large slots for each pin. Instead, I have two black rectangular harnesses with a lot more wires going into each one than usual, more than the others had. The ends of the wiring harnesses (that connect to the back of my ford CD player/radio) are orange plastic with three or four rows of tiny holes for the thin, long pins sticking out of the back of the radio. So, I'm looking for a diagram that'll tell me that all the plethera of wire colors are, and for possibly a female wiring harness that'll have a few inches of wires coming out of it that are the standard aftermarket radio wire colors and such. Also, does my explorer have a ford amp in it? With all the wires I'm suspecting that I do.. If I do, where in the car is it? Also, fee lfree to give me any other information aroudn this that'll help me out, I always appreciate it since I'll probably need to know those kinda things later, if not now.
Thanks for your help!

The power amp is usually under the back seat.your stereo sounds like the 2000 premium model.take the radio out and go to ford and they will match it up to get you the right info for an aftermarket harness.the ford service manual has the pin out,and you can wire it all from that data.

1998 ford explorer 4wd makes a clunking noise when i turn and the 4wd lights flash every 2 min. like it wont go out of 4wd or something?

The clunking noise could be coming from three different areas. Either the front or rear differentials could make that noise along with the transfer case. I would initially be looking at the transfer case as the culprit since you mentioned the 4wd light coming and going. My thinking is that the 4wd engagement solenoid is malfunctioning and trying to bring in the 4wd, then releasing it. The only good way to check the function and noise for this is to put the car on a lift.

On a 1999 ford explorer XLT the radio will only

sounds like a wiring issue. I'd start by checking the wires around the radio and see if they are chaffed or broken.

Turn the radio off first and then disconnect the battery for 2 min then reconnect the battery. This should reset your radio and then you can eject your CD, and reset your stations and clock. Good luck

The amp should be located cargo area on the drivers side. You will need to remove the panel to get to it.
