2000 Impala LS, 3800 engine has been 'missing' (intermittently losing acceleration in quick succession) when temp is at or over half way to 'hot' on temp gauge. That's usually after about 30 minutes on the road. That began when I had new AC unit installed at 126,000 miles (now 130,000). The AC on or off appears to make no difference. Today the 'check engine' light came on for first time. The code was PO742 Torque Converter ckt stuck on. Has anyone had past experience with this problem?

    Hi Duane,
'shudder' is very accurate description! I had $1300 dealer transmission repair 9/08. Codes were PO327, PO332, PO336, P1811 (faulty crank sensor and faulty pressure control solenoid). Most recent code is PO742 associated with the shudder. Would the $1300 repair and this code be related/same? Thank you, I'll look for your response.

You sure its missing and not a torque converter shudder . as a auto tech some times its hard for me to tell the difference. it it was missing it would throw a miss fire code not a torque converter code at 126 k sounds the the trans needs to come out and a good tech needs to rebuild it

Have a 2000 impala about half thardle it start braking up

Check the distributor cap for a crack running vertically. If it has a crack, and you accelerate the cap spreads open and loses timing and sputters.

3800 series2 flutters, missfires with powerloss when acceleration is apllied but idles fine, surges when warm and seems to run normal when very light on throttle. eventually gains and maintains highway

Have the intake gaskets been replaced? you could be getting a little coolant in the cylinder. these are a SUPER common problem on 3.8 series 2 engines

2001 impala 3800 engine has intermittent engine code P0301 and has a engine miss at idle and driving

this indicates that there is a problem with cylinder #1 that is causing the miss fire and needs to be checked out.it could be a spark plug, poor compression, bad fuel injector, dirty injector, bad plug wire, poor ignition coil for that cylinder.just some things to check out.

'02 impala ls 3.8L. lose all acceleration, at heavy acceleration and/or 4000rpms. then sputters and chugs.

I had the same on my 3.8L 2002 Impala. Right arround 3500-4000rpms with moderate to high acceleration; shaking and bucking. With light acceleration, it seemed OK. And no "check engine" light.
It was the MAF sensor. I ended up replacing it, but it was pretty expensive $150+?
You might try cleaning yours first with MAF spray cleaner.

It is located on the throttle body under the engine cover.
Here is picture of it: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/ZeeVert/2002%20Impala/ac%20condensor/MAFsensorcopy.jpg
I was working on the a/c so some other parts were removed.

My 2000 chevy impala shakes while driving.i let

It sounds like you might need to replace your motor mounts, or get a tier allignement done. The allignment you cannot do yourself but the motor mounts you can this requires you to place a jack under you engine and undoing the motor mounts then replace them and take away jack.

Acceleration advances by itself on my 2000 3800 series impala also the check engine light came on.

have that checked by a shop,ASAP..... that can be dangerous. the CK ENG light can lead to the underlying problem.
