1992 oldsmobile 88, my brakes lock up; anti-lock light is on; abs light is on; had new brakes put on but they are locking up too. They make my car grind to a halt.

If the light is on , this indicates a failure and the system is automatically disabled. Vehicle will brake without ABS assist.

Anti lock has nothing to do with it. the brakes operate without ABS. run the motor then turn it off. pull the vacume hose off the power booster and listen for a suction sound. if none. plug it back and start the car. pull the hose and put your thumb on it. it should ****. the booster depends on vacume to work. If you have vacume to the booster and the pedal is hard, change the booster.(scrap yard)

the ABS light being on its a OBDII code a scan tool can find in a jiffy, i always re boot my computers if i feel its a false reading just to be sure, if you disconnect only the neg battery cable for a few minutes reconnect it and let it sit then try it

WHEN BOTH ANTI LOCK AND TRAC LIGHT ON YOU HAVE PROBLEM IN ABS BRAKE AND TRAC SYSTEM.THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO FIX THEY HAVE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO WORK ON IT.THE ONLY THING YOU CAN CHECK MAKE SURE ALTERNATOR OUT PUT VOLTAGE WITH ENGINE RUNNING IS 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS.BECAUSE IF ALTERNATOR OUT PUT LOW BOTH LIGHTS WILL COME ON ALSO CHECK THE ABS RELAY.

This is normal for your anti-lock brakes to quit when the abs light is on.What you will need to do is retrieve the codes and then you can find out what part of the abs system is giving you the problem.This will also cause the check engine light to come on.You can post back and I can help you with the code or codes that are in the brake control module.Hope this helps.

no reset button.have the car anti-lock brake system scanned.to check code.because when anti - lock brake light come on.it can be many things.like faulty wheel sensor.faulty relay or the anti - brake unit low on brake fluid or the abs unit faulty.

Abs is Anti Lock Braking System you could need new brake pads i suggest to have it checked out since the abs is a safty feature

abs relay some times go bad

If the light is not on it may not be the ABS that is pulsating on slow braking but it may be that your have warped brake rotors, even if the rotors were replaced with the pads the new ones may be warped already, we always check new rotors on a brake lathe before installing them because we have seen this happen many times
