Difficult to start (hear noise) turn the key few times and starts

Hi there, I have a Totota Tercel 1998 automatic. I just had a problem with the alternator a few months ago and it as been changed with a used one (but good condition). Now, I have some problems when I want to start it. When I turn the key I hear some noise like it want to start... And it take a few times (2 or less) to start. I was wondering what was the problem...

SOURCE: having problems starting a 97 GMC Sierra

Check the hall sensor. Check the ignition wire going attached to the solenoid, make sure it is not bare or broken. A worn solenoid can also cause this. Check the starter relay as well.

Ignition

Is the check engine light on when the engine is running ?
Have you checked base fuel pressure with a gauge before and after cranking the engine ? You should have some pressure before you crank the engine, and the pump should build up more pressure when you turn the key on.

Car won't start, turns over but won't start.

Was it starting fine and then once when you turned it off, just crank and crank the next time?

After the car sits for a while, does it start normally again?

When you turn the key to on, do you hear a click noise that comes from the left side of your dash? (you should)

If you turn the key on, and you do not hear a click, try turning the key off and on a few times until you do, then try turning the key to start. It will likely start if you heard a click.

Honda's have a relay located in a place that takes a contortionist with a long-skinny-rubber arm working upside down to get to. It is held in place with a small bolt or nut that you can turn about 1/32 turn at a time if your contortionist can get a wrench on it (OK - I'm being a little sarcastic - but it it really hard to get to).

The relay is the fuel-injection relay. You can get them aftermarket at most autoparts stores.

The problem is usually a solder joint and not the relay itself. Many people have had luck with taking the cover off the relay, examining the solder joints with a magnifying glass, and if one is discolored or obviously cracked or bad, heating it with a small solder iron and using a solder-****** to pull out the old solder, then resoldering it. The darned thing is so hard to get in and out, that I have never tried this - I just put in a new one. The relays are somewhere about $100.00 from a dealer, and a lot less from an auto parts store.

If you turn on the key, hear the "click" noise, and it still doesn't start, then it is something else, but these relays are a high-failure item.

Jeep has been giving me problems starting for about a week. just shudders like its not getting fuel until i give it gas and it warms up. Today i had it running for a couple min. I started backing up and it...

See if you can hear your fuel pump go on when you first turn your key if not replace it. It should have a humming noise when you first turn your key.

Won't start...99 cadillac deville...no juice to the starter

hi, can you hear a clicking noise when you turn the key to start as the starter gets its power direct from the battery so also check these wires are connected and not came loose.
If you can hear a clicking noise when you turn the key this means the starter motor needs replacing ok.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Will 20w50 solve cold start noise in hot cimate? Tercel 1998

Operating in warm/hot climates, 20/50 won't hurt anything, but may not correct the problem either. If there is a mechanical problem inside a lifter, the noise will likely continue. Sometimes going in another direction, such as adding Marvel oil to the engine can be helpful if there is any gunk buildup inside the hydraulic part of the lifter, it will help clean it out. If the noise is limited to cold startup its not critical yet, but if it gets worse at any point, you will need to change the bad part.

Starting problems

if this problem persists then you could check a few things on it, like on the times when its not even making a noise when trying to turn the key, use rubber/wooden object and tap the starter motor but not touching the contacts on the back. if this amkes it spring into life then it will be your starter motor if this does nothing then it will be a dodgy battery supply. does it also make like a screaching noise while trying to start? if so then definitely your starter motor

Fuel pump? maybe

Just turn key as far as run, and you should hear it. If no luck, spray WD-40 in throttle body intake, and try starting. If it fires up, it's a fuel problem, if not, check for spark.
