Tire Leaks at Valve Stem

After getting new tires I had to take it back several times because one tire kept losing pressure (down to ~20psi over 2 weeks time). Eventually the tire store found the leak - due to corrosion around the valve stem. I have the 17" chrome wheels (from Chrysler). Apparently these wheels tend to corrode badly. The tire store showed me the valve stem hole - it has a rather area missing on one side! Luckily it has been holding since. I haven't yet contacted the dealer about the leak.

My tires keep losing air pressure

Rosie, Tires loose air usually for the following reason, could have a small puncture, Tire may have deep weather/cure cracking, valve stem leaking, tire to rim seal(corroded or damaged), even big changes in temperature can change air pressure in a tire.
Best to take it into a good shop and have diagnosed and repaired.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides for more info., Good luck.

Can I change the tire pressure valve stems on my rims? I recently purchased new tires and even had the tires resealed. I keep losing air in my tires.

does the car have TPMS? if so they make a kit where u can replace the core of the stem that will re seal it. if it only has a standard valve stem then a tire shop should have replaced them with the set of tires, the only way to replace them is to remove the tire.

Tire sensor fault on our 2006 Ford Explorer after new tires

2006 Ford Truck Explorer
NOTE: The tire pressure sensor training prcedure must be done in an area without radio frequency (RF) noise. RF noise is generated by electrical motor and appliance operation, cell phones, and remote transmitters.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position
2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position three times, ending in the RUN position. Do not wait more than two minutes between each key cycle.
3. Press and release the brake pedal
4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

Sequence:
1- Left Front Tire
2- Right Front Tire
3- Right Rear Tire
4- Left Rear Tire

5. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position three times, ending in the RUN position. Do not wait for more than two minutes between each key cycle.
6. The horn will sound once and the TPMS indicator will flash if train mode has been entered successfully. If equipped, the message center displays "TRAIN LEFT FRONT TIRE." Place the magnet on the valve stem of the LF tire pressure sensor. The horn will sound briefly to indicate that the tire pressure sensor has been recognized by the TPMS module.
7.Within two minutes after the horn sounds, place the magnet on the valve stem of the RF tire pressure sensor. NOTE: If the TPMS module does not recognize any one of the four tire pressure sensors during the tire training procedure, the horn will sound twice and the message center (if equipped) will display "TIRE TRAINING MODE INCOMPLETE." If this occurs, the entire procedure must be repeated from Step 1.
8. Repeat Step 7 for the RR and LR tires. When the tire training procedure is complete, the horn will sound once and the message center (if equipped) will display TIRE TRAINING MODE COMPLETE.

This should help. For now, probably all Fords are like this. And I do not believe that Ford puts sensors in their spares (some GMs do).
Good luck

Toyota 2008 Highlander Hybrid Tires are TREACHOROUS!

A small amount of tire glue is apply on the rim of the tire during mounting.

The tire glue is to ensure there is a good seal and easy mount (when the metal bar slide the tire into the rim).

Air can leak from the tire valve or the rim.

I would use soapy water to check the valve and valve stem for air leak.

It may be too small to detect.

The quick fix is change the valve stem..

Dismount and remount WITH TIRE GLUE at a REAL tire shop will be final corrective measurement.

If you DO NOT go off road and want get a small mileage increase then you can use a smaller tire and rim package.

245-65-17 tires will save a little on your wallet.

2" decrease in diameter reduce the weight and rolling resistance.

The ride feel will be different.

Do a little checking with your local tire shop before you switch.

Good luck.

Lexus ls430 2004 tire pressure indicator

Veve713:
You probably didn't need new tires unless you had some miles on it. Remember that the spare tire also has a pressure monitor as well. It most likely is causing the low tire pressure light on the dash and only needs to be inflated back to what ever your other tires are set to. I had the same problem on my RX and took it back to the dealership where they told me since the spare is exposed to the same elements (it's under the back of the RX - you have to use the tire iron to let the spare down), it will inevidably lose air.

Good luck.
