High eratic idle

I replaced the timing belt on this Montero and I can't seem to figure out why it's idling so high. What can I check to fix this?

Try checking the adjustment screw on the throttle body. Two other possible causes could be the speed sensor or the TPS sensor.

SOURCE: sputtering during idle blue smoke

You are burning oil, causing the blue smoke. It is mainly cause by worn piston rings. Also will coat your spark plugs with oily residue. Try an oil additive such as "stop smoke" or another such brand to reduce burning your oil and it may recondition your seal sand stop it all together.

SOURCE: 97 Montero Sport charging voltage is high

It sounds like the internal regulator is faulty. If you are charging your battery with 15.5 volts, the battery will gas extensively and suffer from overheating. The normal charge rate for a normal flooded battery is 14.2 volts. A vehicle designed to have a calcium battery will have a slightly higher charging voltage but not 15.5V. The regulator is generally in the back of the alternator (depending on make and model) and can be replaced particularly if you you remove it from the engine. Smacking it with a hammer will not mend it.

SOURCE: 02 mitsubishi eclipse p507 code.

P0507 - Idle Air Control (IAC) System RPM Higher Than Expected

This P0507 code is one that's sometimes triggered on vehicles that have electronic throttle control. That is, they don't have a regular throttle cable from the accelerator pedal to the engine. They rely on sensors and electronics to control the throttle. In this case, the P0507 DTC (diagnostic trouble code) is triggered when the PCM (powertrain control module) detects an engine idle speed that is greater than the desired (pre-programmed) RPM. In the case of GM vehicles (and possibly others) if the idle speed is over 200 rpm higher than expected, this code will be set.

Potential Symptoms: Most likely you'll notice the idle speed is higher than normal. There are potentially other symptoms as well. Of course, when trouble codes are set, the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp, a.k.a. the check engine light) illuminates.

Causes: A P0507 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:
* A vacuum leak
* Leaking air intake after the throttle body
* EGR valve leaking vacuum
* A faulty positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve
* Damaged/failed/dirty throttle body
* Failed EVAP system
* Failed IAC (idle air controller) or faulty IAC circuit

Possible Solutions: This DTC is more of an informational code, so if there are any other codes set, diagnose them first. If there are no other codes, inspect the intake air system for air or vacuum leaks and damage. If there are no symptoms other than the DTC itself, just clear the code and see whether it returns.

If you have an advanced scan tool that can interact with the car, command the idle higher and lower to see if the engine responds appropriately. Also check the PCV valve to see if it's blocked and needs to be replaced. Check the IAC (idle air controller) if equipped, verify it's operation. If available, try swapping in a new throttle body to see if that fixes the problem. On Nissan Altimas and possibly other vehicles the problem may be fixed by having the dealer perform an idle air relearn procedure, or other relearn procedures.

Hope helps.

Check the timing marks. Being one or two teeth off can advance the timing causing high idle.

Wondering what rpm should a 2002 jetta tdi be idling at?right now it seems at 850 to 900 which seems a bit high. i would figure it to be normal at 550 to 650 , any help is appreciated.

when cold it will idle a tad higher 850 - 900 is normal cold , and around 600 warm. if it is idleing high after warm up then check for excessive coke<carbon> build up in intake and throttle valve.

Eratic idle

adjust it to 16 degrees then, this should compensate the wear on your timing belt, but also then I recommend to replace your timing belt soon.

1989 honda prelude enigne idles high then low irratic

I had the same problem on a Rover. There was a leak in inlet manifold that was caussing the problem.
To verify, spray some sealant to temporarily seal the inlet manifold .and the eratic idling should disappear for some time.
If it does, you know there is leak in inlet manifold which you can take of and refit with a new gasket.
