Dp not replace it. It is a false signal and it is passive. reverts to normal after any event. will not turn on check engine light. just stores a code. nothing wrong with sensor.

SOURCE: Code reader knock sensor where is it located

According to the Haynes manual it is under the intake manifold, Upper and lower intake manifolds must be removed for access. If you go to Auto Zone, they have the sensor and can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the knock sensor with common tools. Good luck and hope this help.

SOURCE: where is the knock sensor

For 2001 Mercury Truck Villager Wagon 3.3L SFI SOHC 6cyl the Knock Sensor (KS) is located on the engine block under the intake manifold.

The sensor monitors preignition, or spark knock, and sends the signal to the PCM. The PCM responds by adjusting ignition and fuel timing until knocking is stopped. Vibrations in the engine are sensed by the piezoelectric element and weight in the KS as vibrational pressure.

Fig. Knock sensor location with a view of the internal components

  1. Remove the lower intake manifold.
  2. Remove the coolant crossover tube.
  3. Disconnect the KS electrical connector.
  4. Remove the KS bolt and remove the sensor.
  5. The installation is the reverse of removal.
Hope helps.

SOURCE: COMPUTER SAID TO REPLACE KNOCK

blessdwth3, Your knock sensor is a round unit that is about an inch and a half in diameter and is usually located on the back side of the engine block, usually near the middle. Just unscrew it to replace it and put wire back on. The speed sensor is usually located on the transmission on the long side extending to the right side of the vehicle. Take out the hold down and pull straight out, a little twisting motion will help with this. Put in new sensor and hold down bolt and replace wire. If you have a code reader then use this to clear the codes. If not, remove the negative battery wire (black wire) for about a minute and this will erase the codes.

Check the codes, you should find that you need to replace the crankshaft position sensor and/or the camshaft position sensor. You can take it to most auto parts stores and they will put it on a meter and run the code test for you.

Location of knock sensor on 97 mercury villager

it's in the valley of the engine. Do not ever replace it even if you get a code. A knock sensor will NEVER casue a driveabiity problem. It only retards timing 6 degrees if it senses spark knock. It also sets a code if an engine mount is broken and the engine rocks up and down on acceleration.

Checked at autozone when service engine soon light came on code for knock sensor and fuel running rich came up...are these expensive to repair?

The knock sensor is located under the intake manifold and will be expensive to fix at 5-6 hours labor. The rich code could be a bunch of different things and will need to be hooked up to an actual computer to see what is out of spec.
