Why would praking lights stay on and dash lights and lights around the heat controls will stay on with the key out

The limp mode , reduced power mode has to do with the electronic throttle control . Some good videos on youtube how it works an how to diagnose . Electronic Throttle Control ETC System .Now as far as the parking lights staying on ,the relay contacts are probably stuck closed causing the lights to stay on .

only the HL and parking work , key off.
find what lamps glow, key off.??
there are lots of interiour lamps.
dome lamps
dash park lamps
dash warning lamps
map lamps
foot lamps. lots more,. name some.
with keys in pocket, and HL and park switch off.
best is to do this in the dark.

and thus the name Dark current. (or phantom drains.)

Go to a mechanic if you can't figure it out . it'll make the problem worse just tampering with it GUD LUCK

the key position has nothing to do with the lights staying on.
That function is controlled by the headlight switch.
Make sure the wires going to it are in the correct location.
Sounds to me like you have 2 wires crossed. (dimmer working backwards)

There are only two limp modes

ETC-Electronic Throttle Control-that is from
really bad ignition coils

Cylinder Head Temp -from the obvious


The parking brake is electronic

All it's components you can see under the back
above the rear differential

Squirt something like WD-40 into the key slot. Make sure shifter is fully in park and NO pressure from the steering gear on the column ie. front tire against curb. Last resort is to lightly tap the key into the slot with a small hammer.

As for dash controls...I assume you are talking about AC/Heat controls, if so, you have a big vacuum leak, under the hood most likely. Start at the vacuum can or ball, and check all vacuum lines attached to the intake manifold and trace them from one end to the other.

maybe a defective park switch..sometimes there are seperate park switch

the switch that makes the light change from P,R,N,D etc...is faulty and needs replacing it should be around the T bar area under console as the lights on the dash are controlled by a switch

sounds like you might have a problem with your ignition switch, it's sticking and acting like your key is in when it's out.
