Yukon will not start with key

Yukon will start with remote but after key is turned and my foot hits the brake the truck shuts off. It also will not start with key, there is power when key is turned but nothing-no cranking. this is intermittent and just started.

Anti theft not recognizing key, possibly worn out. Try spare key if you have one or have a new one cut and recheck.

Testimonial: "I tried the spare key and it does the same. If I turn the key to the first position-stop- the next-stop then all the way it seems to start."

SOURCE: '98 Yukon - Cold Start Issues (not battery)

THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE FUEL PUMP PRESSURE MAY BE DROPPING OFF AFTER SHUT DOWM, THERE IS A FUEL PRESS CHECK VALVE BUILT INTO THE FUEL PUMP TO PREVENT THIS, U WILL NEED TO DO A FUEL PRESSURE LEAK DOWN TEST, IT SHOULD NOT DROP MORE THAN 5 PSI AFTER ENGINE IS SHUT OFF, IF IT DOES THE PUMP MUST REFILL THE FILTER AND SUPPLY LINES WITH FUEL THIS CAUSES STARTS AND STALLS AND LONG CRANK TIMES.

SOURCE: 2007 yukon xl battery dead recharged battery will

We had the same issue with our 2007 Yukon Denali XL. Died on us twice after sitting for short periods of time; once we watched a DVD with the engine off and battery died within 10 minutes. The dealership kept it overnight to troubleshoot why the battery died so quickly. They said the radio was "pulling" too much from the battery. (They supposably fixed it) But again a few days later the battery died again after sitting overnight. We brought it back to the dealership and they brought in a GMC "expert" to replace the entire DVD/CD/Navigation system. They also replaced our battery with a much larger battery, similar to the ones that GMC puts in there diesel trucks. They had our Denali for 5 days, but it appears to be fixed now.
Getting it fixed correctly wasn't without headaches, but it was all covered under warranty, including the battery. And they are updating the nav w/ the new edition disc as well for no charge.

I lost my keys to my 2005 GMC Yukon Denali but I have a extra remote starter sitec can I start the truck without a key or do I have to have a key made

Remote starters normally only let you do that. You will need a key made in case the remote starter fails, and they do often. The dealership can do it from the VIN Number. You should really have one for use and a spare.

My car won't start with the key but it will start with the remote start and when its started with the remote and turn the key when I hit the brake it shuts off

The shutting off is standard procedure for the remote start if the brake is pressed without the key being in the on position. That said, it seems you may have an issue with the ignition switch. When you turn the key to the ON position, do all the warning lights on the dash come on like they are supposed to, or does it just sit there? If the lights do not come on, then you need to check out the ignition switch circuitry. The remote start bypasses all that when in use, but in order to drive the car once started, the ignition switch must function properly.

When I put the key in the ignition it doesn't try to start everything else comes on then shuts off. I drove it yesterday but now it won't work

The remote starter module is not getting an electrical signal when you turn the key to the on position after remote stating the vehicle. When you depress the brake without turning the key on the vehicle shuts down. The remote module thinks the key is off even when you turn it on. There is a loose connection or the remote start device is defective.

I cant get my 95 yukon out of park. the brake light switch i think is ok. i am thinking that it is the bracket that it slides into. how can i know for sure and how can i fix this issue

Well, if you key the ignition up without starting, pull back on the shifter handle and try to move it to reverse--while depressing the brake pedal--have someone look at the brake lights while you hit the pedal to be sure they are coming on.

I cant start my car with the remote starter

You normally have to while the car is running transmition in neutral push the brake pedal, put the emergancy brake on, release the foot brake, press the remote start button on the remote, take keys out of ignition switch, car should stay running, get out, press the lock button on remote starter remote, car should shut off, and now is set

Keyless remote wont work, vehicle completely shut down

Hi Russell,

Absolutely no power? No dome light? No head lights? Nothing?
When you step on the brake pedal, no brake lights?

If true, start at the source and pop the hood.

This is going to be a bit of back and forth dialogue. I'll ask some questions and you get me the answers. That way we can get to the root of the problem. To save time, I'll ask multiple questions at a time. Here goes.

  • Check the battery. Is it still there? (Valid question with no evidence of power)
  • Are the terminal clamps tight?
  • Are the terminals clean and free of corrosion?
  • Are all the belts in place and tight? (pay special attention to alternator)
  • If you have a voltmeter. test the voltage at the battery terminals. It should be +12.5VDC.
Try getting a jump, when the cables are attached does anything light up?
Does it turn over and start?
Does it do anything?

Comment me back with your findings
