'03 VW Jetta a/c not cooling - it's HOT in Texas!!!

'03 VW Jetta 1.8 turbo 5 spd manual w/ manual a/c

long story short...

car died, jumped battery, a/c quit blowing cold. Passenger side fan works, car not overheating, but driver side fan will not turn on.

had battery checked - good
had a/c pressure checked - good
checked all fuses inside/out - good
3 fuses on top of battery all reading 12v
temp coolant sensor replaced about 3 months ago
direct jumped clutch from battery - kicked on
direct jumped driver side fan from battery - did not kick on
do NOT have CEL light on

took to VW mechanic today. He hooked up to vagcom & said he wasn't getting any faults. He then suggested I replace BOTH fans (at the tune of $700) at which point THEN he could tell me if the FCM was sending the correct signals to the fans.

suggestions????

Check for power and ground to left (large) radiator fan with test light. If power and ground to connector are ok, replace faulty fan.

SOURCE: 2004 Jetta GLS. Main cooling fan remains on after car turned off.

"Already had replaced: both cooling fans, fan control module, coolant temp sensor, fan switch, 4 terminal connectors. No trouble codes reported in VW electronic diagnostic test. 2 different VW dealers and and my mechanic threw in the towel. Any suggestions greatly appreciated."

This is a common problem with the VW..and no one has an answer WHY. (including VW mechanics)

THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE and should be implemented

1999 VW Jetta- all dash lights (ABS, Brake, Airbag, Check Engine) went on and then the car died. It restarted when I had a jump but only made it 1 mile before dying again. Is it the alternator?

Sure is, the regulator in the alternator went out. You can test this by starting the car and disconnecting the battery while the engine is running. If the car dies, you have a bad alternator.

Cooling fan on 1.8 turbo VW Jetta 20001 did not shut off all night after car was turned off

Locate your rad fan relay, and next time it does it, give it a quick rap with handle of screwdriver or similar weapon. If it stops, replace relay.
