CHECK THE COLD START ENRICHMENT VALVE AND OR THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE. I AM ASSUMING THAT YOUR VEHICLE IS FUEL INJECTED. ONE OF THOSE HAVE GONE BAD.
SOURCE: wont start after warmed up
here are things to do.
Clean MAF sensor wires with carb cleaner and toothbrush carefully. This will remove varnish.
Check under distributor cap and rotor (1 screw) and under slotted plate. If brown dust, you need new distributor. Clean optical sensors for cam sensor before re- assembling. Temporary fix only.
Check ECT, engine coolant temp sensor.
Have Autozone run free computer scan for fault codes.

So he the mechanic said that your timing belt was off and gave it a tune up instead..Unplug your mass air flow sensor which is located in the air filter duck work or in the filter its self. Its should be the only 3 to 5 wire plug in the air cleaner or the piping from that to the intake. Now with that unplugged start it and drive it .If problem is gone the tats your problem. If it jumped a tooth on timing it would run bad all the time. But if he says it the sensor could possibly be and just working than not working.Try this and see if it helps you..

SOURCE: Engine will not idle and run when starting in cold weather
Have a mechanic take a look at your throttle position sensor and engine idle sensor. Make him manually adjust them as opposed to just putting in new ones. It may require that you have to have a higher idle than normal. Your underlying cause is going to be that I am sure you have a lot of miles on your engine.
SOURCE: PO 340 code, ck wires replaced censer, car starts
since the code is the circuit malfunction and just not the sensor recheck the wiring and connections may have a bad connector or a break in wire also check the crankshaft sensor wiring and connections which is also part of circuit
