I'm not sure what you're definition of trunk latch is so let's cover all the bases.

The trunk latch mechanism is inside the trunk well. When you open the truck lid, look down, right in the middle of the back lip that you would have to lift things over to put them in the trunk. The latch mechanism is right there in the middle. While you are looking in the location, look just to the left as you are standing behind the vehicle, and you will see a handle kind of like the pull handle on the end of the cord for your walk behind mower. That is a glow in the dark, emergency pull release for the trunk latch. If you or a child ever got caught in the trunk for some reason, you can pull that handle to manually operate the trunk latch to allow you to open the trunk lid.

On your key FOB, you have a trunk release button as well. If you push that button twice within 5 seconds, the trunk latch will release. You also have a trunk release button to the left of the steering wheel. It's a round button with a picture of a car with an open trunk lid. You can push that to open the trunk lid as well. To use the button inside the car, or the one on the key FOB, the car must have the transmission in park. It will not release the trunk latch if the vehicle is in gear.

Most...note the word most of the release units are mounted directly to the latch assy. Some are remotly mounted and use a release cable. Check near the latch for the release mechanism.
The clicking of the box is a good thing that means power is making it back that far. You did not mention the location of the box but if it is near the latch then it is most likely part of the mechanism. If it is mounted away from the latch then it is a module and wires should come out of it and run up the trunk to the release. if in doubt...pull out the trunk latch after marking the location of its mounting. Looking at the back side of the latch should make things clearer as to how the release works. With it out you could check for power at the release. If power is there you will need a new release. (kinda sounds like your problem)

If only the trunk release is not working, did you check to see if the little lever arm switch on the trunk lid at the latch assembly is switched to enable the release? Mine came switched to the 'Off' position when I bought it and it took me a few days to figure that one out.

i just bot mazda millenia and i can't find trunk release???!!!!

I purchased a Chiltons through www.eautorepair.net and looked up the Relay for the trunk release button on the dash. I found the location under the fuse panel under the drivers side and found the relay was not pluged in. I conected the relay and to my dismay the button worked.
