First is it a stick shift or and auto box.. stick shift will be the clutch. or a part of it best to change the lot in this case clutch and other components in there. you can get a clutch kit with all parts you need. auto it could be the speed sensor or the servo or selector in the auto box. can also be faulty oil in the auto box. or even just to low. you would need to check this.

sounds like you should start by dropping the pan and changing the filter, put cheap fluid in it or reuse the old fluid if its not too bad bring it to a shop and have a transmission flush performed with a good flush machine your valve body is sticking and this should clear things up please rate -jeff

SOURCE: 1996 dodge ram 2500 auto transmission not shifting properly

Well, first do the service. Pull the pan down and look for metal shavings. If there is metal shavings your in for a transmission. If not, you may have a problem with one of the transmissions shift solenoids located near the valve body.
P.S. The Duramax has the Allison 1000 transmission not the dodge cummins and they are one of the best trannys on the market.

4wd messed up in dodge 1500

inspect for worn components from output of transfer case to front diff input. If everything is tight and solid from those two points, everything else points to being transfercase internals. Make sure your actuator isn't faulty causing a "4x4 to 2x4 shift on/off"

2000 Dodge Intrepid Transmission slow to engage

Only check the level when it has been driven and warm. And while it is still running. Now, for the slow engagement, It may be draining fluid back into the pan, from the torque converter. Let it idle a little while before trying to drive it. That will fill the torque converter back up, and will drive right away. Takes about 2 minutes of idle time to fill the torque converter. Now, drive it and then, while it is still running, in park, check the fluid level in the transmission. It very likely could be low and could also be the slow engagement cause.

2007 Dodge RAM 5.7 Hemi. Transmission slips when first started.

Check the obvious - fluid level up to par? If so go back to dealer (unfortunately) since their fix was not permanent.
