I was on my way home & when I hit the gas my brake light/battery light came on & if I let off the gas it would go off then back on. Then I got to town where I had to stop & my battery was going dead then my car stopped.I parked it & tried to crank it up again & it started then went dead again. Got a jump from someone & it ran till I put it in drive then went back dead.... can someone help...
Your alternator is dead/dying. Nissan puts both of those lights on to tell you that the alternator isn't charging your battery.
My wife and I have owned three 1994 Sentra cars. One of them went
through batteries and alternators like crazy, plus the dash lights would flicker when accelerating and you could hear a relay clicking in time with the flicker. I tried cleaning the cable connections going from the battery to the alternator (there are several of them!) and put a small amount of conductive grease (copper-dust in it) on each connection. Helped a little with the flickering...
Last time the 1-year old
battery died, I replaced it and went straight to an auto electric shop.
The technician found that the harness running to the alternator was hot enough to scald you
if you touched it. Miraculously, I found a factory NOS harness on eBay
and bought it. Easy to put in, and the car went from a maximum charging
voltage of about 13.1 volts, to a MCV of up to 14.1! Haven't replaced a
battery or alternator on it since. Hope this helps someone...
