I don't see a code 55 in alldata, or my Chrysler site. I do see a code 5 which is a MAP sensor voltage low. You probably need to have it checked with an actual scan tool to see what the correct code is.

Ok NOW FOR SOMETHING YOUR LOCAL MECHANIC WILL NOT TELL YOU..... I'm going to instruct you how to read engine codes on a Chrysler product.... follow these steps Do not turn the key all the way back to off but also do not go to start ,
Turn the engine off, then turn the key ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON without starting the engine.
The codes will begin to flash on the Check Engine light. The light will blink the number of the first digit, pause, and blink the number of the second digit.
All codes are 2 digit numbers.
The code 55 indicates the end of the messages.
As an example, a stored code of 23 would flash 2 times, pause, flash 3 times, pause, flash 5 times, pause, and flash 5 times.
***** NOTE SOME NEWER ACTUALLY SHOW NUMBERS IN THE ODOMETER AREA OR RADIO
go online for your YMM to find codes. Hope this helps

There are well over 800 possible trouble codes that can turn on the engine light, so we don't waste time guessing trouble codes. Get the trouble codes read for free at any auto parts store. If you need help, post the codes here. Check engine light on Part Ricks Free Auto Repair Advice
you might not have an assembly line communication link [aldl] port if you want to read a code from your check engine light --turn key on [not start]--than off do this 3 times and on 3 rd time light will blink the code [say its 12 it will blink once than short pause than blink 2 more times ] you can retrieve the codes meaning online search obd l codes
first you have to diagnose the cause of trouble. How to get the codes on a 1998-1999 Dakota:
Depress the trip reset and trip/odometer switches, and, while holding them,
turn the ignition to ON/RUN, and wait about 5 seconds. This sends the car
through a short self-test sequence that lights all segments of the odometer and
shift selector read-out (where applicable). It will then display the stored
error codes. If that doesn't work, try holding in the trip/odometer
button while doing the key on/off cycle 3 time. If that doesn't work, some people have reported success by doing the key on/off
cycle 10 times instead of 3. you are unable to pull the trouble codes yourself, wether it be because you
aren't doing the procedure right or perhaps your truck doesn't have that
feature, most auto parts stores have scanners and will pull your trouble codes
for free. I know for sure that Autozone does this, and have heard that many
others do as well. (They do this for free because they are hoping that if it
turns out to be a bad oxygen sensor, for example, that you will purchase an
oxygen sensor from them.) You can also purchase a scanner of your own;
The warning light comes on for a variety of reasons, anything from an ignition problem to vacuum leak. You can take it to your local dealership or auto parts store and they can usually hook up a reader to the computer in your car and read the trouble code which well tell you exactly why the light came on.
If you would like to read the code yourself here is what you do:
To check the fault code yourself from the comfort of your own garage, put the ECM in "Diagnostic Test Mode II" by doing the following:
1) Sit your **** in the driver's seat. 2) Turn the ignition key to the ON position and wait three seconds. (Do not start the car.) 3) Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal five times in less than five seconds. (If you've got bad ankles, give up now and drive the car to the dealer.) 4) Wait exactly seven seconds. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and hold it down for about ten seconds until the MIL light begins flashing. 5) Release the accelerator pedal and start counting flashes to obtain the four-digit trouble code. Long flashes (0.6 seconds) indicate the first digit of the code; count the blinks one through nine and write down the first digit. (Ten blinks indicates a zero.) The next three digits follow in turn in the same fashion except with faster blinks (0.3 second) and a 1.0-second pause between digits.
The ECM code repeats intself until you turn the ignition key to the OFF position, at which point the ECM resets itself to standard get-in-and-drive-the-car mode. You can look up the trouble codes in the ESM/FSM; there's a bunch of them. In the ESM, refer to page EC-639. Additionally, if you get four blinks of ten (0000), the ECM is indicating no malfunction.
You can clear the code (and the annoying MIL) by holding down the accelerator pedal for more than 10 seconds while in Diagnostic Test Mode II. When you release the pedal, the ECM erases the trouble code(s).
The 95 Caravan is great for giving you trouble codes. However they are two digit codes. There should be a blink sequence followed by a short pause then another blink sequence (example 2 blinks, short pause, 3 blinks... Then 5 blinks, pause, 5 blinks which means no more codes. Turn key from off to run three times and leave in run and watch check engine light to count blinks. Disconnecting negative terminal on battery for 30 seconds clears codes.
Put the Key into the Ignition and turn from OFF to ON (not START) Position, which is right before Start and do this three (3) times. On the third time leave the Key in the ON (not Start) Position.
If you have a didgital Odometer look there for codes (example P 0123). There may be several so wait until it reads "donE". Record these Codes.
If you do not have anything reading in the Odometer window: Look immediately at the Check Engine Light and count the number of times the Check Engine Light blinks (on and off). There are two (2) digit blinks, then a pause followed by pause followed by more blinks. Record the number of blinks. The last set should be five (5) blinks followed by five (5) blinks.
Get back with me on what the blink counts were. (example 18, 23, 55).

Keep pen and paper ready, as you might have to write down error-codes as you want to do this.
Turn ignition OFF
open the lids of the diagnostic sockets situated in front of the enginecompartment (by the fillercap for the windshieldwasherfluid)
Put the socket with a short lead on in the hole marked "1" on module A
Turn ignition ON
press the pushbutton on the top for about 1 second and WAIT.
The LED will blink in a sequence that indicates if there is any problems that need to be solved.
The led will blink 1 to 5 times, have a pause, blink 1-5 times , have a pause and blink 1-5 times.
Write down the sequence as you count the blinking. eg: 1-3-1
When one sequence is finished, you press the pushbutton again, and read the next code.
Repeat this until you read the first code again.
If the first code reads 1-1-1, all is OK and you can proceed.
After this you can reset the servicelamp:
Leave the connector in socket 1 on modula A.
Turn ignition OFF
Turn ignition ON again
Press the pushbutton for 5 seconds. Be patient.
Release the pushbutton and wait about three seconds, then the LED starts to blink rapidly
press the pushbutton for 5 seconds again and release it.
Turn the ignition OFF
Remove the connector from the socket, replace the lids and put the connector back in its rest.
Turn on ignition and start engine, the service lamp should not be on.
