SOURCE: car was low,low on fuel, put half tank in car.drove

Replace the fuel filter. That should fix the problem. You can follow the fuel line back to the fuel tank to find it. It is usually in the middle of the vehicle near the edge of the vehicle, like right under the passengers or drivers door.

SOURCE: Stopped to get gas car

Start off by replacing the fuel filter and spark plugs. If it still runs bad then check your fuel pump with a multimeter for consistency. If your fuel pump is ok then go ahead and replace the spark plug wires and oxygen sensor.

SOURCE: the car ran out of

first replace the filter this is the least expensive repair..when u ran out of gas u may have sucked up (dirt) in the fuel tank.....if that doesnt work bring it to a service repair station an have a fuel pressure gauge hooked up to it....this willl tell u if the fuel pump is starting to fail...when u run low or out of gas the fuel pump can over heat an cause premature failure....u should never allow ur gas to go below a quarter of a tank since the fuel is what cools the fuel pump

Chevy truck stalled on freeway after buying gas at a speedway station. Was it bad gas or fuel filter/fuel pump problem?

Good question. All you can do is hook a line up to the fuel rail to get some gas so you can inspect it. If the gas looks ok they you probably have either a fuel pump problem or ignition problem.

Possible dirty fuel filter. I'd start there first, as it's the cheapest route, and quite possibly replacing the filter will solve your problem.

Car won't start

Your fuel pump is sticking and not pumping, this is common if you run the fuel down to less than 1/4 full, the fuel pump needs the gas to cool itself, below a 1/4 tank the pump is not getting cooled and after repeatably running low on fuel it overheats and fails. Running the car near 1/2 tank extends the pump life to many years more than running tank below a 1/4 full..
