Throtle postion sensor 91 toyota corrola - 1991 Toyota Corolla

Most speedo's especially this old have a sensor and cable back to transmission housing, Usually no fuse.

the throtle position sensor is located on throtle body across from cable conections and yes the throtle position sensor can cause shifting issues

The first thing is to have the computer scanned for codes. the check engine light should also be on with the engine idle too high.Scanning for codes is the best first step in finding the problem.
this could be caused by a vacuum leak or bad throtle postion sensor or mass air flow sensor and more.Go to an auto zone or other auto parts store ,they will scan the codes and give you a print out of the codes. get me the codes and i will try to help you solve this problem.

check for a vacumn leak ,there is a vacumn hose that could have come off during your cleaning process.

Code 27: Sub-oxygen sensor signal or heater circuit fault.

Pull up on brake pedal. If lights go out then brakelight switch was stuck. Made out of plastic will need to be replaced. If not climb under dash follow brake pedal up towards top where it goes toward dash. There will be a plunger like switch that comes in contact with brake pedal. Disconnect the wire connector. Lights go out switch is bad.

Mounted on the throttle body. Try cleaning it before replacing. Follow the hose from your air filter box to the intake, the sensor will be right in that area where the hose connects to the intake throttle body. It should have a harness plug.
