Don't worry about the lines unless excessive sludge and debris is found during pan removal. Drop the pan, inspect , wipe clean, replace filter and fill with fluid. This service is recommended every 50k.

SOURCE: cant find where to add transmission fluid

on some of the newer cars they dont have dipsticks they have a plug near the pan that you have to pull on the trans to check the fluid level and to fill it there is a cap hidden on top of the trans by all the stuff you have to try to bend a funnel around to get in it. dont you love the engineers

SOURCE: adding transmission fluid to a 2002 pontiac grand prix se

I am not sure which engine you have on your 202 Grand Prix, but if you have the most common 3800 V6 this is where it should be. Look at the back of the engine compartment just to the left of the plastic master cylinder resevoir.
Here is a picture you can look at...

SOURCE: how do you check/add transmission fluid to a 2004

Hello! To check the fluid level, the first thing you want to do is get the fluid to operating temperature, by driving it for a bit and letting it shift through all gears. Once you've done that you need to make sure you park the car on a very level surface. Remove the front passenger wheel and the splash guard. From there reference the picture below to give you an idea where the fluid check plug is located - there is no dipstick on this transmission (4T45e). You will also see the fill plug location.

If you do a pan drop and filter replacement only, the fill capacity is 6.9 quarts. You will want to use Dexron III type transmission fluid.

FYI - here are the torque specs for the pan bolts is 106 in/lbs and the check/fill plugs are both 124 in/lbs.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I am having trouble with my 1998 pontiac grand prix it wont switch gears it is an automatic

First, check your fluid! Is it full? Does the fluid smell "burnt" or have particles in it? If so change your fluid.

If that isn't it, then you will need to rebuild the automatic transmission.

The last one I rebuilt was on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix and have decided that from now on I will take them to a transmission shop. Although I am a pretty decent machanic, an automatic is hard to rebuild without the proper equipment and experience rebuilding them.

I cannot find the transmission dipstick

TRANSMISSION DONT HAVE DIP STICK,YOU HAVE A CHECK PLUG LOCATED UNDER TRANSMISSION NEAR THE PAN ADJACENT TO THE ENGINE OIL DRAIN PLUG.CHECK PLUG IS A METRIC 11M OR 12M METRIC BOLT.TO CHECK FLUID CAR HAS TO BE LEVEL AND ENGINE RUNNING.WHEN YOU REMOVE CHECK PLUG, IF FLUID POUR OUT YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN TRANSMISSION, IF FLUID SLOW DRIP YOU HAVE ENOUGH FLUID IN TRANSMISSION, IF NO FLUID DONT DRIP OUT WHEN CHECK PLUG REMOVED,ADD A PINT OF TRANSMISSION FLUID AT A TIME.YOU POUR FLUID AT TOP OF TRANSMISSION UNDER THE HOOD,YOU WILL SEE A RED VENT FILL CAP, REMOVE CAP, YOU NEED A VERY LONG FUNNEL TO POUR TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE TRANSMISSION. IF YOU HAVE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING OR SLIPPING PROBLEMS,MOST TIME TRANSMISSION DUE FOR FILTER AND FLUID CHANGE IF YOU AT THE 60000 MILES TO 120000 MILES TIME FOR FLUID AND FILTER CHANGE.

Transmission is slipping

Check trans fluid level. Also smell the fluid, does it smell burnt? If so you will need a complete rebuild. You don't say how many miles are on the car. Have a trans shop check the pressure reading. Have the trans oil and filter changed. It should be done every 36000 miles. If the car has over 100,000 miles on it, it's is not a good idea to change the fluid due to internal leakage which will cause more slippage and a total failure of the transmission. It might be time for a trans rebuild.

How do you check or change transmission fluid on a 2001 Pontiac Grand am GT?

Draining the system is easy,,It can be messy,, loosen the transmission oil pan bolts slowly allowing the pan to drop down fluid will spill out ..Checking the trans fluid , The transmission and fluid must be at 80 degrees celcius..and the car raised level and remove the 10 mm threaded plug at the passenger side of the trans on the tailstock end and if fluid comes out then its at the proper level..add fluid at the red cap located on top of the trans..at the drivers side....good luck

My transmission is slipping when accelerating from a stop. 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, 3.1, filter and fluid changed one year ago.

The forward clutches are going bad is the most likely problem. To repair the trans should be rebuilt.
