Transmission The transmission went out at 98 K miles. Had it rebuilt at Aamco ( mistake ). Went out again, 900 miles from home and the Aamco dealer that I had it towed to has rebuilt the transmisson 3 times and each time it goes out after about 40 miles of driving. Will not go forward in any gear but Reverse workes fine. Can the problem have anything to do with the computer module?

SOURCE: Check engine light is on

no such thing as a catalytic computer... there is a catalytic converter ... part of the exhaust system so they may now be "guessing" that it's an O2 sensor. take the car to autozone... they will scan the codes for free.... post the codes here tho the lads and lasses there are pretty clever and will probably tell you what the codes mean.

SOURCE: Hesitation in Transmission Shift

The ES built form May to August 2006 had a faulty valve in the transmission. Lexus voluntarily replaced over 700 transmissions as good will while seeking out the problem.
Once discovered the valve was replaced in production beginning August 2007. Your production date is on the drivers door pillar. Later models were fine however some transmissions have been reprogrammed to adjust for a shift issue. My Sienna , lags and then shifts late and hard sometimes upon acceleration from a stop. Similar transmission, same fix is available. Remember that a problem they can't replicate is always tough to fix, but if this sounds like the same shift problem, ask then to keep the car overnight, you'll get a loaner and they can try it cold. The transmission can be reprogrammed again... Lexus can and will help../.It is in their MOTTO,``we can, we will..."The relentless persuit of perfection.
Post back with an update and your production date

SOURCE: 1995 lexus es300. Transmission has

P0753 Shift Solenoid "A" Electrical Malfunction (Shift Solenoid Valve No.1)
P0758 Shift Solenoid "B" Electrical Malfunction (Shift Solenoid Valve No.2)
P0763 Shift Solenoid "C" Electrical Malfunction (Shift Solenoid Valve No.3)
------------
You should first check the linkage from the tranny to the gear shift lever. Then have the computer scanned for codes. There are too many possible causes to guess.
As per the error codes which you mentioned its Transmission problem. P0753, P0758, and P0773.check the transmission harness that goes into the trans and also check the valve body harness you will need to remove transmission pan for this. The first code is about gear ratios. The gear ratio fault is more then likely triggered by the solenoid issues. You need to make sure they did not damage the outside transmission harness that is located on the top of the transmission housing make sure this is ok because most of your faults are electrical faults.--------- And for shift solenoid. All the shift solenoid are internally connected/ related to each other, when one goes bad, other also get affected.Check the wire going to solenoid.-------- Also there is speed sensor. The speed sensor located on the outside of the transmission.Remove that sensor, clean that sensor and refit it.---------- The other thing that affects O/D is temperature of the coolant. If the thermostat sticks open or the system is not above a predetermined temp it will not allow O/D either.Coolant temp sensor not reading correctly reading colder than is ,or the thermostat has been removed and not replaced with a new one
or the thermostat is stuck open If the transmission system does nor read the correct temp it will not change into O/D.------
As per the error codes it indicates transmission solenoid and transmission issue.

Why will my transmission not engage

Low on transmission fluid , Shift cable broke , internal problems , fluid pump worn out , Unless you rebuild transmissions for a living ( went to school to do it ) your best bet is take it to AAMCO or dealer !

Transmission goes out when stopped and comes back on when car is restarted

Any transmission issue is usually the beginning of the end but you should check the fluid level if the fluid is any color other than red see if it smells burnt. next drain and remove the transmission pan if there are a lot of shavings and pieces of any kind you most likely need it rebuilt or replaced. If not then the filter may be plugged you should try changing the fluid and filter. If it is bad a good used transmission cost between $600 and $900. It costs between $1500 and $2000 to have yours rebuilt.

Yes they should have known about your transmission. Are they liable? That is a tough question because there is no saying that you did not have a underlying problem that was not found. To prove this you would have to take it to a shop and have them take the transmission apart, then see what exactly went wrong and go from there.

A dealer or a transmission repair shop come to mind. Dealer will hurt your wallet and stay away from chains shops like AAMCO. Most likely you are looking at a rebuilt swap install deal.

1994 F350 transmission intermittent problem

I had the same problem in my 96 f-350. The transmission has slipped recording a slip code in the transmission. You can pull the codes and get it. I shifts into a safe mode that increases the pressure inside your transmission as part od a fail safe. Plain and simple, you have to have the tranny rebuilt.

Transmission 1999 lincoln continental

Transmission model is AX4N.The reason that the car/trans only acts up after long drives is the heat.As metal components heat up,tolerances and clearances that were marginal or borderline before with moderate heat, become excessive clearances when really hot.More than likely there are internal transmission components with excessive wear. Many problematic areas inside the AX4N trans is the pump, where the oil pump driveshaft bearing wears out,the seal is torn, and hydraulic pressure falls off, common failure point in these units. The other areas are typical to all automatic transmissions, the clutch packs and bands wear and lose clearance.as well as some of the bushings inside the unit.I just rebuilt recently a trans exactly identical to your car,V8...4.6Ltr Lincoln, and it had minimal damage inside, but enough to throw the check engine light on with a Torque Convertor Clutch trouble code. The TCC was slipping excessively, and the vehicle computer recognized this, and illuminated the CEL.Chances are good that the damage inside your trans will be minimal, but now is the time to consider rebuilding it and restoring all the hydraulic circuits integrity, and resetting all the clutch pack and band clearances with new clutches, steels, and bands.A remanufactured torque convertor should also be installed along with rebuilding the trans.Be careful as to who does the work on the trans should you decide to rebuild it,as some people's definition of a rebuild doesn't quite qualify as anything more than a patch/repair job.A complete rebuild consists of tearing the trans completely down, loading it into a parts cleaner, and thoroughly cleaning it.From this point, the rebuild begins, including a banner overhaul kit,new steels, bands, seals, thrust washers as required,Electronic Pressure Control solenoid, all new bushings, set clutch pack clearances to factory specifications, along with setting unit endplay, and a remanufactured torque convertor.Good luck.

Transmission on my 1999 ES 300.

Flush the fluid every 30-45k miles. I work for lexus and they make solid cars and transmissions but some es300 transmissions from that year range fail (a very small percent) they do only replace transmissions. After the replacement the cars are fine, its not necessarily anything the owner did.Ive seen mixed results from shops that rebuild these transmissions as they don't do them everyday, those shops see alot more gm ford and chrysler vehicles and many of their models fail before 100k.
