SOURCE: 1998 Ford Mondeo GLX, loud humming sound, front driver side.

Most likely it's a wheel bearing going out.., If you turn to the right, or the left when driving the noise will change pitch. Been there done that.....

SOURCE: 2003 BMW 325i will start but making noise

It might be a faulty power steering pump. Try checking the level of the power steering fluid. It is probably best you have your power steering system checked by a mechanic.

Does the noise occur only when the vehicle is moving?

Try moving the steering wheel from side to side, while stationary (but don't do it too often, or you might damage something). If the noise is still present when the car is stationary, then it probably is the power steering system.

If the noise only occurs while the vehicle is moving, it could be a problem with the differential/final drive, or even wheel bearings.

SOURCE: when i start my 1997 toyota rav 4 it makes a loud

without being there to listen to it then it is going to be hard to say what the problem is......but since my 20 plus yrs working on toyota and lexus and depending on the mileage and whether or not you have ever replaced the timing belt......i would first start by checking the timing belt because when the motor is cold the rubber on the belt gets hard and if the belt is streched when first started it will start flapping and will slap against the timing cover and as it warms up the rubber on the belt softens up and the noise will reduce to a less noticeable sound......i have also the wrist pin bushings and the pins themselves that are connected to the pistons make this noise and also if the oil rings are sticking it will leave the pistons loose in the cylinder wall and as the motor warms up the noise will go away.....i hope that this info will help and if you need anymore info let me know with more detail.....also if you could let me and fixya know if i was able to help you in any way and a comment and a thumbs up would be greatly appreciated....thanks and good luck.......have a blessed day...........

Loud metal knocking while starting coming from

What vehicle is this? The earlier Toyotas had that kind of problem because it took some time for the oil pressure to build up on the overhead cam. Once the engine ran however, the noise was gone and nobody bothered too much with that.
If the noise persists after the engine started, take it to a pro immediately, otherwise, ride 'im cowboy.

Why is there a very loud knocking sound in my 2000 camry engine?

The short answer is there is something loose or broken inside the engine.
Someone will need to narrow down where the noise is coming from and then the actual source. The engine may have to be disassembled to find out.

I have a loud knocking noise coming from my 3.5l engine on my 2000 intrigue. i am wanting to know what the problem is so i can decide to fix it or not. thanks

a loud knocking normally indicates big end bearings,(about 1/4 engine speed)not a big job but,an engine rebore/rebuild is normally the way to go,its cheaper in the long run.....

Loud ticking/knocking/rattling sound when I start/accelerate

hi is it miss-firing as it sounds like a knocking noise can be anything but if you can feel it on the accelerater pedal then the noise sounds like its on the inlet valve side which would transfere the noise up the throttle body where the accelerater is located it could be something as simple as a tappet come loose to a burned valve you need to have a look do a compression test and take the rocker cover off see if theres anything come loose yates210456
