Hi I have a '05 Hyundai Elantra this morning when I started it it seemed a little jumpy like the battery was going to die........ I just replaced the battery last June. When my son got out he said it smelled really bad, and smoky.... any ideas?

ford has a technical service bullitin out on this vehicle for the intake gaskets leaking causing a vacum leak that set codes 171 174. the solution is to have the intake manifold gaskets replaced . call your local ford dealer and see what thay can tell you about this bullitin.

Check your o2 sensor harness. The harness if not properly secured will rub on the axle to a point where it rubs through the insulation of the wire & shorts on the axle causing the ECU fuse (20A) to blow. Repair the harness & replace the fuse & bada bing! You should be in business! Hope that works. IF NOT follow this K.I.S.S.
Keep It Super Simple! It never fails!

it could be anything have the code checked odds are it is a bad sensor

Did you use a aftermarket O2 sensor or a genuine Hyundai one? If it's an aftermarket one it may be bad or not as good as the OEM one. See here for more details and other potential causes: P0133
