1984 Civic gas not getting through carb

I'm fixing up a 1984 Civic Wagon with 1500cc for a friend. It sat for 4 years. Engine will start and run on the gas I squirt in the carb, but as soon as that's gone it quits. Fuel pump is OK, has press and delivery (new gas). Gas shows in the float chamber window at proper level. I'm not familiar with Hondas. Anybody got an idea?
Thanks, Old Dodger

Just inherited a 1984 civic wagon it starts wont idle and after it stalls it wont start again without being primed. I kept it running and drove around the block and it stalled and wouldnt restart even...

i assume its a carb motor. if so i would first check the vacuum box for broken or loose lines, if the problem isnt there i would look to see if there is a loose wire by your thermostat. if theres a wire ground it to the thermostat bolt. these have both worked when the same thing happened to me.

Just bought a 1984 mustang its not run for years and wont start it turns over getting gas to the carb and has fire not sure about wiring

Any time a car sits for a long period of time you should completely drain the gas tank. The gas is more then likely stale. Try pouring a little new gas into the carb or use starting fluid. If it starts you have found your problem and will more then likely have to drain and clean the tank and replace the fuel filter.
If it does not start with the new gas, it is either a compression or timing issue. If you have spark at the plugs, and GOOD fuel in the carb and it still wont start I would check the timing. If the timing is on, check compression. If the engine sat to long with no oil in the cylinders they can build up condensation and rust. Then when you try to start it with the rust in the cylinders it can destroy the rings and cause compression loss.

I have a 1984 nissan maxima station wagon. The car sat for 2 years without being ran, and we have fixed it and runs fine. But the windows, sunroof, and all buttons on the center console by the E-brake have...

The windows and sunroof have relays (mounted under the dash above the fuses) that are probably corroded... also there are thermal circuit breakers that are supposed to reset when cool but also may also be corroded... if these are good then it's a wiring issue under the console...
Hope this helps...;-)

Car cuts cuts off then won't start 1984 Camaro Berlinetta

Sounds like a fuel pump. What engine do you have? Carb or Fuel injection? I know you said you spray carb cleaner in the carb but a throttle body kind of looks like a carb. The first thing I would try would be a fuel filter. 1984 camaro right?

1984 Toyota tercel wagon

Although this isn"t a proper fix, and may affect emissions, I ran accross this problem on a friend's 87 2wd wagon.

There is a dashpot that controls a lever the Idle set screw is on, I am guessing it is a decel valve that closes butterfly when coasting in gear. I never looked at a manual to figure out what controls the vacuum valve that is on the passenger side of the engine compartment, but if you disconect the vacuum line and plug it that lever will not back off and idle will remain where you set it with the adjustment screw.

Make sure the engine is warmed up and not on a fast idle cam before adjusting idle.

The car is a 5 speed, I not sure if automatic cars are the same.

The car idles fine now and still run's great and gets 37+ MPG with 240000 miles!

If you want to fix it properly you would have to diagnose why that dashpot is being actuated at idle
