Re: My 98 s70 is overheating when come to a complete stop...
Check radiator for leaks and thermostant might not be working alo check transmission fluid some times radiator fluid will mix in with transmission fluid since transmission fluid lines run throug radiator

Depending on if you have a high pressure Turbo or not. The engine in my S70 T5 is a high pressure turbo 2.3 litre. Look on your driver side fender(under the hood) for the VIN Tag and it will tell you what engine is in your car.
are your radiator fans coming on? If not, remove the electrical plug from the drivers side of the radiator and jump the top 2 connectors with a pair of needle nose pliers. the fans should run on slow. If they do, your fans are good. It could either be the heat switch ( you just pulled the electrical plug from it), or the fan relay ( under the coolant reservoir).
If the smoke was white, then you've probably blew the head gasket. Check for coolant in the oil as well as the coolant level. Coolant in the oil and low coolant in the radiator or reserve bottle combined are good indication of blown head gasket.
replace thermostat did bleed coolant system check coolant level.because if not engine could have overheated and blowed headgaskets warp or cracked the heads check engine compression.sound like engine got too hot.
LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ON DRIVER SIDE FOR FUSE BOX.LOOK ON FUSE BOX COVER IT HAS LOCATION FOR FUSES AND RELAYS.MOST TIME PROBLEM WITH COOLING FAN CIRCUIT WILL CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BAD ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR WILL CAUSE COOLANT FANS NOT TO TURN CAUSE OVERHEATING. ON.REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP SEE IF STOP OVER HEATING. IF ALL LOOKS GOOD HOTWIRE COOLANT FANS MAKE SURE FAN MOTORS ARE GOOD AND NO SHORTS AT FAN CONNECTOR WIRES.
Your Heater Core is Bad= Coolant on Pass Floor
If A/C Does NOT blow Cold anymore the Evaperator Core is Leaking
First time I have seen them BOTH go Bad in 30 rs of Bein A Mech/Tech
Chances are if you have a coolant leak right under the water pump, especially with engine running, the inner seal in the water pump is shot & the entire water pump will need to be replaced with a reman / new one. For the amount of hassle required to replace the seal it is worth the couple hundred bucks for the new pump.
There would definitely be overheating problems if the pump were not working at all. You will also have overheating problems present if there is low coolant, make sure the rad is topped up, with heater(s) on "Hot" inside & run the engine until it shows warm on the gauge. Make sure all of the belts are tight & pump looks like its spinning.
Yes this has happened to me. The coolant temperature sensor tells the radiator fan when to turn on to cool the radiator. When this sensor is faulty your vehicle is overheating and it can cause a blown head gasket if not replaced. I hope this was helpful.
It is your heater core. I fixed mine for $144. Ordered the new part on Ebay and followed these instructions http://www.volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=9717
It was very simple, I'm a middle age grandmother! The hardest part was cleaning up all the antifreeze. You will need a shopvac, a small one is $20 at WalMart.
