try removing panel and check for loose or worn contacts, or replace the panel cluster with a new unit or one from a junked unit in good condition if cost is a factor

SOURCE: The switches on my drivers

First check would be for blown fuses. Next i would check for a good power and ground at the drivers door switch. If you find a bad power or ground at the switch, trace it back and look for a broken wire. Most likely place to find the wire would be in the drivers door jam. If your power and ground check out ok, and the switch isn't providing power to the window motor and door locks when pressed, then the switch is bad.

Hi, since these functions are on separate circuits, I would say the problem is either in a connector for the door or the ground point 203, which all 3 circuits are using. I would check the ground first. You can access the ground by pulling up the driver's side switch, unplugging the connector, and checking continuity of the black wire to the chassis using an ohmmeter. If the ground is good, then check for power on the dark green wire. Please let me know what you find out and if you have any questions about troubleshooting.

SOURCE: Auto door lock on drivers

The most common cause of a single door lock not to work, is a bad door lock actuator (also called a door lock solenoid). Another common problem or cause of door locks not working is simply a bad door lock switch. But as per your problem, power window/ lock switch needs to be replaced. If the door lock fuse blows when door lock switch is depressed, then its quite possible that door lock switch is shorting.Bypass the door lock switch and connect the door lock switch wires directly to each other and then see if the door lock fuse blows with car key in on position. If the fuse is not blowing, then connect passenger side switch to driver side switch and then operate and see if the fuse blows. If not, then driver side door switch is faulty and needs to be replaced.-------- ---------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

to see if it is a switch problem see if the locks work from their respective doors, if the locks work from the switch's on the back doors and not from the drivers switch then the drivers switch is bad. If the locks don't work right from any of the switches then the door lock solenoids are bad. the solenoids are not too hard to change if you are mechanically inclined, switches are not too hard either

Electric door locks only work from driver door

hi, does the drivers door unlock and lock all the other doors if it does then you may find that a clip or connecting bar has come off the passenger door lock, you would need to take the door panel off to check,

If how ever the passenger door dont lock and unlock via the drivers door then you would need to buy a new central locking motor for the passenger door..

Your best option would be to remove the passenger side door panel and get someone to lock and unlock the drivers door whilst you look at the passenger side and have a look to see what parts are moving this should then give you a good idea of the parts that could be damaged

2002 Ford Explorer - Drivers side door lock, rear

Aside from the fuses, your drive side power door lock may be failing to work because of a bad door-lock relay system, or, alternatively, the locking switch/button, itself, is not malfunctioning and in need of replacement.

A great handyman site that specifies the above probable causes and more is the following link:

Central Locking

When you use your remote or insert your key in the Drivers Front door all the door locks should work at the same time by the door lock motors electrically. If you have to manually unlock the door because it will not lock or unlock by the lock motor, you need a door lock motor. The drivers and passengers front door can unlocked with the key manually. The rear doors you have to pull up the latch. If no doors unlock electrically with the remote or drivers door lock, intermittantly or all the time, you will need a Central Locking Electronic Control Module. You will hear the "beep" but no door locks will fire at all. If you have odd door locks not working intermittantly you need a new door lock motor for each door lock that malfunctions. You can hear of the door locks are working electrically. Yes, they are common problem. If you can hear the door lock working but the door still doesn't unlock you need to take the door panel off and lubricate the door latch assembly and work the lock, loosening it up. This is common as well.

I would follow their recommendation as I had the same problem with my car. They unhooked the power to that door and it was fine. The problem was a short in the wiring in the door that was causing the problem. So maybe get them to check the wiring in the door as well.
