Have you had any work done on the dash/ignition areas? Is it an aftermarket radio? Most likely there is a short or loose wire. First, disconnect the battery. Make sure fuses are in right spot and have right fuse (easy to google diagram) not just inside car but also in battery junction box with relays and fuses under hood (the larger box), there is a 20amp for audio there, the ones inside are numbered on the cover and I believe in the owner's manual, next can push in tiny holes on front of radio to pop out radio and check wiring. Next, can also check the wire going to the antenna, it's behind the panel in the trunk, takes a little struggle to remove/replace but it can be done, the bottom pulls off, the top screws in depending on if you are replace part or whole. Good luck:)
if the radio doesn't come on at all, I would start with checking the fuses for the radio, if the fuse in the car is good, sometimes radios have a fuse built into the radio, usually you have to pull the deck out to access it. check car fuse first, make sure its not blown.
make sure the radio doesnt display "code"
did you accidentally hook the battery terminals up backwards for a second when installing the battery, or when jump starting?
sound like bad battery cables.replace them.the positive battery cable is old and have a lot of resistance not allowing power to the alternator to charge battery.if battery cable good check alternator connector wires.make sure they are not damage also check alternator fuse and fuse link.turn off radio before removing battery wires so you wont lose radio code.
2 things to check why your battery die. check the alternator by turning your ignition on. set gear to neutral, accelerate upto 3000rpm and measure the battery voltage accelerating. voltage should be in range of 12 to 14v. if your not using a maintenance free battery, check the battery solution/fluid level.
2nd. check for any short circuit it might have.
hook up an ammeter on one side terminal of your 12v battery with all units/accessories off, door close, monitor the dc current amount flow. normal reading is below 1A (should be in mA, 5 -100mA). . for the radio cd, does the unit goes on when power is on? if not check the fuse that supply the unit. if you cant find the fuse, try hook up the radio supply to the battery directly with fuse installed. this time the unit should on. if not, with 12v presents your unit is defective.
let us know some updates as we are going to handle it one by one. hope this helps.
try replacing the fuse for the radio. it will look clould/blackish and the little metal piece running in it wont be connected. It should be underneath the steering wheel and should be labled. if you have trouble finding it, consult the manual.
