Replaced the fuel pump and filter last fall. It hasn't been driven much since. The codes have been checked and there are none.

Wont start. drove the caravan to the store then home and it hasnt started since

It could be just about anything was it driven normal before it died or was it acting up . make sure that the gas is actually getting to the engine if it is i would maybe change the spark plugs. then the computer again . but may start to get costly by guessing you may want to bring it in for test..

My 2004 Kia optima recently died while being driven, I had it towed home...i replaced the fuel pump(fuel filter and fuel pump strainer), it also has a new battery. It started up just fine after the fuel...

Then you have a intermittent spark . Now do you have a spark tester to test spark. Its okay if you dont we have one . Oh by the way you did the fuel pump yourself. if you can do a fuel pump then you can do this to solve the no start problem. No spark tester? okay we will use that tachometer (RPM gauge). crank the engine does the tach meter reads zero at all times while cranking, if it does youll need a crank sensor. Here the story Rough running conditions and or stalling was caused by a faulty crank sensor, try shaking the connector or wiggle the crank connector then see if it starts. Youll need to inspect the connection for proper male to female connection these have been the most suspectable failure of KIA. If you decide to replace this sensor make sure connections are good, more than likely this was the problem and not the fuel pump

First, see if it loses fuel, or spark when it dies.

Car died while driving, fuse relays work, just changed spark plugs, spark plugs are gapped correctly, turns over. Timing belt is intact. Acts as if car is not getting fuel, but fuel pump is working...

Use a little starting fluid to make to the engine CAN ran for 2 second.

On high mileage car,it's possible to jump a tooth or two on the time belt (not chain).

Can you set TDC top dead center on cylinder and open timing cover to see the cam dots are lining up?

DO NOT attempt this in the dark.

=====
Check for oil coolant cross mix.
=====
Change fuel filter

fuel pump motor can ran but the plastic diaphragm will fall apart in a HOT DAY.

Vehicle dies while driving down the road.

could it be the A/C pump kicking in. might be boging down the motor or electrical circuit, not letting the injectors get enough power. This could happen if the bearings are going bad in th A/C pump or there is a short in it. Just an idea. sounds like you have done the main components.
