I have an 2002 Chevy Impala, when I go to crank my car it won't do anything. I have to play with the ignition by turning the key back and forth in order for it to crank. what is that?

Why do so many people ask about an Alternator ?

It has nothing to do with the starting system

You said you have to play with the key & ignition switch
that may be a place to start

87 Ford ranger will not crank. it will turnover but will not crank. i changed the sylanoed but still won't crank

Turning over & cranking is the same thing

Check for fuel pressure at motor with a gauge
when you turn the key on

Check for spark or injector pulse when cranking

If the motor won't turn at all, check relays & possible
bad starter,neutral sw,ignition sw

My 2008 silverado won't start battery is charged

No, it isn't an ignition issue.

Check power to the starter motor solenoid.
If this is getting power when cranking, then the issue is with the starter motor solenoid or starter motor. Replace.

Vt com turns over but dies not fire ?? Has fuel but doesnt seem to ignite ??

1) Do you have spark? Crank sensor? 2) Another quite common prob with them is the key reader. either the little metal bump on the key worn or the reader at the barel where the key makes contact but from memory if that no good it won't crank (can't remember)

Key turns fine. Car won't turn on. Won't even crank. Sometimes pushing key further into the ignition switch with a bit of pressure helps. Battery is one year old.

What you are saying is the key switch is worn out, and there is a separate problem with the engine performance.
Either an import shop or the dealer are your options here.

I put key in ignition and it won't turn. Steering wheel will turn but key won't turn. We have 2 keys and neither will work. What can I do?

If the wrong key was inserted it may have bent a tumbler pin, maybe try some wd-40 or similar and work it with the right key, might drop the tumbler back,,if not the whole ign. cylinder will have to be changed
