I have replaced the harness from the fuse block and the switch on the steering column. I have brights on the rt and only a dim light on the left when I switch to bright. I have power on the orange wire on the rt side and nothing on the left when i plug the bulb in on the rt I then have power on the blue and pink wires on the left. I have also replaced the relays in the fuse block and still nothing. thoughts? John
Not working on dim ???? Low beams ?
Do you daytime running lamps , auto lamps ?
Headlights Circuit Description
Ground for the headlamp switch is available at all times at connector C1 terminal 35. Battery voltage for the right headlamp is supplied through the RH HDLP fuse (CKT 640) to the following terminals:
• Pontiac-B
• Oldsmobile-A and B
Battery voltage for the left headlamp is supplied through the LH HDLP fuse (CKT 740) to the following terminals:
• Pontiac-through the DRL relay to terminal B of the headlamp
• Oldsmobile --to terminal B and through the DRL relay to terminal A
When the headlamp switch is placed in the HEAD position and the low beams are selected, ground is supplied to terminal A of both headlamps (D-Oldsmobile) from connector C1 terminal 34 of the headlamp switch through CKT 1201. When the headlamp switch is placed in the HEAD position and the high beams are selected, ground is supplied to terminal C of both headlamps from terminal 33 of the headlamp switch through CKT 1200. Selecting flash-to-pass on the headlamp switch momentarily supplies ground for the headlamps via CKT 150.

SOURCE: Automobile electrical problem
I hate to say it but GM "W" bodies of that time period ( Regal, Cutlass Supreme, Lumina, and Grand Prix) are notorious for turn signal problems. I'm a machanic and also have owned 3 W body vehicles. The pivot bushing in the switch wears prematurely and in turn causes the copper contacts to barely touch each other. If the contacts are dirty, there is resistance. Where there is resistance, there is heat, hence the smoke. It's just a poor design. What I do instead of replacing the switch requires some time and some surgical skill but it always works for me. At the pivot end of the switch, I remove the screw and remove the metal tube insert. I wrap the metal with electrical tape to take up the slack from the wear then grease the heck out of it. At the contact end I attach a piece of sheet metal to the bottom of the movable part of the switch so it sits underneath the non-moveable part making it so the moveable part can't lift up and lose contact. That's just a vague description but if you want a detailed one let me know and I'll write one. I did it to my '89 Regal 4 yrs. ago and to my wife's Grand Prix 1 yr. ago and they both still work great. Just a design flaw in the switch. Sometimes you have to pick up wher the car companies left off! beest921
SOURCE: Headlight Replacement not as bright
You should check the connection on the back of the light before replacing the whole thing.
Hope you got this in time.

Have you considered going back to the place that replaced your motor. They surely are responsible for not making things worse. You just asked for a different motor and not all the electrical issues. Don't throw parts at it.
The Buick Century is equipped with a
multi-switch. This switch is an all in one switch that controls your
cruise control, windshield wipers and turn signals in one switch. This
switch also controls dimming and brightening of your headlights. The
dimmer switch is simple to replace, and all you need is a phillips head
screwdriver to complete the task.
