Guess what? Volkwagen makes you buy the entire glove box assembly, including lock and door in gray, black or beige for around $145. No way to fix the latch because it is encased in sealedand glued plastic. Good luck! Mine just broke, also.
See this website on how you may be able to fix the glove box door for nearly free. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id...

You will have to drill out the lock and get a new door and lock assy.
I rebuilt my glove box door with polyurethane adhesive. I broke the two shell halves apart, repaired what was broken with same glue then glued and clamped the two halves together again. Now it works better than new.

The latch is sold seperately. Call your local dealer with the last 9 of you vin number to get the right color. Most dealers sell at the same MSRP price as all the others in town. I know cause I sell these all the time at my Chrysler dealership.

SOURCE: how to replace glove box latch
Remove the glove box: unscrew 3 screws inside the box (in a row towards the top) and 2 on the outside (one on the bottom right side- open the car door to access it, and one on the bottom left side). Grab the bottom of the box and pull it toward you. It will come off.
Once it's off, flip it over. There are 2 screws that hold the latch housing on the box (you'll find them in the 2 circles that are cut into the plastic). Unscrew them.
Next, flip it back over to the front and stick a small flat screwdriver between the latch housing and the glove box part that it's stuck into. Gently pull the latch and the whole thing should come out.
Pop the new one in, replace the screws, put your glove box back in your car, and you're good to go!
