My key needs to be jiggled for my 2002 grand am to start. I was wondering if that is caused by the key tumbler or the ignition switch? And the tumbler is on the dash, does that mean the ignition switch is on the dash or is it on the column?

The ignition tumbler has worn out.You probably need a new ignition tumbler and key. I replaced one myself recently. Should run 20 something dollars at any Auto parts. Make sure you read the installation instructions. shouldn't take long. Be patient and you can do it yourself...
The reason that the key wouldn't turn must have come from a malfunction of the ignition switch or the connecting rod, rather than the just the tumbler. Since the dash lights & gauges work now, at least part of the ignition switch is working, but apparently not the part that's engaged when the switch is turned to the "start" position. By replacing just the tumbler, the dealership tech would have jiggled the connecting rod just enough to reseat it (and fix the jam that was causing the key to fail to turn in the tumbler), but didn't fix the real problem, which seems to be a worn out ignition switch or worn connecting/actuating rod.

If the key will not turn it is possibly associated with the steering lock. Try turning the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key. If that does not work, it sounds like you may need a new ignition tumbler.
i have had this happen a few times not sure why but i usually just keep trying jiggling and twisting and eventually it lets go and will work fine for a while not sure what causes it im told the ignition tumblers are worn and i should change the ignition switch before i get stranded. hope this helps
Try moving the steering wheel slightly to the left or right when your trying to turn the ignition key's. If that does not work try the second set of keys. At worst the tumblers has gone bad and the ignition cylinder needs to be replaced at the dealer so they can match the pass lock key's to your ignition switch. Good luck and hope this helps.
First try turning the steering wheel and jiggling the key simultaneously. If this doesn't work, your problem could be caused by the link between the ignition lock and the switch. Have your ignition switch and your key tumbler assembly replaced. It's an 08. It's under warranty !
The key problem could be a worn out key that is not disengaging the
tumblers in the ignition switch or tumblers that are sticking(squirt a
little wd40 in the ignition cylinder and move the key in and out a
couple of times) inside the switch. Make sure the shifter is fully in
park.
sounds like key tumbler broken internally , disconnect coil to stop engine and disconnect battery to stop battery drain til problem fixed, may have to jiggle key and tumbler til it releases key ,
