    just fixed my neighbors, 94
hubs were clean and OK, and lubed.
    we found the caliper bad
    in 4wd, the vibration caused
the pathetic bad clipper pins sliders
to rattle (rusted to near nothing)
saving them for catastrophic front brake failure. Never ignore noise (abnormal on any machine and live)

same story with bad front wheel bearings
most times the "dipstick" last did this
failed to set them to spec. 180ft/lbs
and it failed hard. as all do like that.
seen by me and have email from 100s same story.... sad but true.
why not pry tell, check the whole front end for bad parts. and WIN.

bad has no limits. LOOK and WIN
    look first leap second.

    here is one more,my 91 , front "A" ARM
was just about to fall off(missing . nut)
imagine at 85mph in Dallas that.
yes ,our speed limit is that.

    news flash.

    wow , lowest in 13years
    news

    wow....

MOST TIMES ITS A BAD HUB LOCKS
THE CAN ALSO CHATTER. 1/2 INGAGED
IN EACH CASE, RUST TRUE CAUSE.
BEST IS TO FULLY CHECK THE WHEEL that
clicks, jacked up. for bad brakes or bad
and rusty hubs. or wheel bearings shot.
one can prove hubs are bad
remove them and drive. quiet now,?
no, the wheel wont fall off.
a full front end inspection is IN ORDER
    for sure, not a guess.

ps, no statement if auto of manual hubs

    in all cases, be safe

I have a escape 02 4x4 that howls maybe the hubs

check tires as well. But yea if you are driving when the noise exists, swaying back and forth in lanes will let you know if its a hub noise. If its a hub noise the growl will be louder or different when weight shifts off and on the hub. Where weight is on the hub it usually gets louder. Alot of the time there may be two problems like tires and hub noise. Tire noise is easier as rotating front wheels and rear wheels will change position of growling/howling noises.
Good luck

Free, information

If you here a roaring noise in your front wheel and when you turn one way or the other and it stops. then your gonna be looking at changing your wheel bearing ( hub assembly ) , but how do you know which one to change. Well when driving down the road, move steering wheel back and forth easy, which ever way you turn the wheel and the noise stops that is which side is bad.
Example : your driving alone and you turn your wheel to the right and the noise goes away, then it's your right wheel bearing ( hub assembly ).if you turn to the left and the noise stops, then it's your left wheel bearing ( hub assembly ).

Is there a bearing or bushing on the shaft that the left axle slides onto on a 1999 Bonneville se?

i have been fooled by this one way to many times. when a wheel bearing or hub assesembly is making noise, it will sound like it is comming from the other side. i do not know why this is. but one test will prove if and which one. when growling noise occurs, notice, when turning left or right, does noise get louder and quieter as you turn? if so then it is wheel bearing. when turning left the right side will make more noise. when turning right the left side will make more noise. if always the same then, tires or transmission need addressing. the cv axle does not make a growling noise, unless front wheel drive car does not move, it makes a clicking or poping noise. sorry but at least you dont have to replace other axle

Poping sound from the front my 04 gmc sierra 4x4 5.3V8

If the sound is present when the wheel is turning under weight, the wheel or bearing hub could be causing the sound. The easiest way to check this is to get it on a hoist (supporting the front lower control arms), start the engine, put in gear while applying the brake, gently let the wheel start turning and look for the sound. If the sound is missing, you probably have a wheel (e.g. broken weld) or tire problem.

I have a 97 expedition and everytime I turn the wheel theirs a poping noise coming from the front end,but when I jack it up it doesnt do it whats the deal?

This is common when the ball joints are worn. Replace the ball joints before something catastrophic happens. What can possibly happen is the ball joint breaks and the wheel and hub assembly falls. This can be fatal if this happens while driving. If you need instructions on replacement, let me know.

Steering knuckle for 1988 suzuki samurai need diagram to show me step by step and want to change front barrinngs inner and outter.this is a jeep and sounds like a front wheel drive car with bad back...

No noise should come from the front when you are driving on asphalt as you are in 2WD, right? If you have been using 4WD with the hubs locked on asphalt, then there's every chance that your CVs are shot. You are, of course, unlocking the hubs when you are only in 2WD aren't you? When the hubs are unlocked and the car is in 2WD, the CVs do absolutely nothing. With the hubs unlocked, and the front jacked up, spin the wheel and listen for noises, and grab the top and bottom of the wheel and wiggle it in and out and check for movement. If there's no noise and very little movement, then your bearings are unlikely to be the problem. These are taper roller bearings and can be adjusted.
