Battery light is on have checked alternator, replaced cables on battery, but battery will die after short distance
The alternator usses two fuses - a 100amp maxi fuse and a 30amp engine injector fuse. You should have battery power on both circuits at the alternator with the key on and the engine not running.

How long did the 2nd alt. last before it died? The voltage regulator is, I believe, attached to the alternator. Have u had the voltage regulator checked?

look for a fuse under the hood check owner manual but it would be in a black plastic box and should be labled or may be a fuselink

on the mazda millenia 2.5 litres it takes about 1 hour and half
but if your alternator is charging at idle 13.7volts it is on spec
maybe you should go for a second opinion

Confirm that the rating for the alternator is the recommended rating and ensure that the alternator is okay.
