The car drove fine last night. I get up to start the car the following morning and the car didn't start right away. It was making the sounds as if it was going to start but didn't. After approximately 15 minutes it started, but the check engine service light along with the VDC/SLIP light remained on.
If a warning light is on, there's a trouble code stored in the computer. There are well over 800-1,000 possible trouble codes in the average late model vehicle, so asking us to guess what's causing your problem without knowing the code is a complete waste of time. recommend driving the vehicle on the route the the light came on to see if it does it again. if there is something wrong with the system the problem will show up again over a peroid of time. technicians have a hard time finding intermittent problems, so if you can give them a driving scenario to recreate the problem it certainly helps.

sounds like the battery went died and the system where going into limp mode til it ran out of power with a good battery installed check the charging system output
