99 ford windstar wont shift into reverse sometimes.

My 99 ford windstar will not shift into reverse sometimes. If i play with the shift lever a little bit shifting through the gears it will engage. It works without slipping when it engages and i can tell when it does because the rpms drop slightly.

look for transmission shift interlock solenoid fuse.or a bad brake switch will cause transmission not to come out of park.

this problem is a common failure associated with your shift solenoinds inside your tranny. of course a shop is not gonna tell you this because by the time you wanna get it repaired it is usually too late and have already cause damage to your clutch pack and internal parts, thats the main reason why a shop wont mess with just replacing your shift solenoid (aka valve bodie)

Take off the top cover of the steering colum, drop the colum down with the adjuster, take a small pair of vice grips, clamp it around the shifter indicator cable atachment. This will alow you to shift gears, (from rev to drive),no park. Just set the parking break, turn it off. Your key will not remove until you tie down the switch that is at the bottom of the shifter slot. Your shift lever will make it close when you put the truck in park. Then you will be able to remove the key. 2004 ford windstar replaced gear shift sensor but does not engage however when i move the stick the doors lock and the back up lights com on when in reverse but van feels like its still in neutral do i...
sounds like your issue is either involving the torque convertor, or more than likely the transmission is at fault. your gear shift lever is actually mechanically linked to the trans, the gear position sensor would not cause the van not to move, sorry for the bad news!
