Hello: If the light is for low coolant level and the radiator/overflow tank are full it will not hurt to drive it. The thermostat has nothing to do with the coolant level switch. The level switch will be in either the overflow tank or the radiator tank.

Hi there,

It's important to understand that a "Water" warning light, does not relate to fuel.

If it is indeed a 'water' warning light, then it is likely to be either:

1) windscreen washer bottle water is low, or
2) engine coolant fluid is low (check the level of your coolant resevoir bottle)

If your coolant is low, then you should investigate why you are losing coolant fluid.

the part store you went to can clear the code
however, being LOW in coolant will cause over temp
you concern is probably a defective thermostat or defective CHT

you should be able to fill coolant to full level , also resivor and light willl go off, unless the sensor gets stuck or is bad, try taping on resivor see if it goes off may be stuck.

Add Coolant to spherical reservoir at right rear of engine compartment as viewed from front. If it is low the coolant gauge flashing light will warn you of a low condition.

check float that is part or the warning light switch located in reservoir,the floats leak and sink in the reservoir giving low coolant reading

DO NOT DRIVE the vehicle until you can confirm by VISUAL means the Coolant level in the System.
The coolant light coming on indicates, EITHER, Low Coolant level, or a Failure of the Coolant Level Sensor on the Surge [Expansion] Tank.
Also having refilled the Cooling system, and with the Engine running, LOOK for visible signs of a LEAK, on the Engine and Heater Hoses.
