Window gets stuck in down position , I need to know how to remove the crank handle and door panel to find the problem. I have done this on cars with power windows but not on a manuel window vw Thanks Tom
Check with VW to see if they issued a recall on the window regulators. They replaced both of mine about 2 years ago based upon a service recall. I had a 98 VW Beetle.

There is actually a tool just for that. You can get one at any parts store and their only a few bucks. It removes a little clip that holds the crank to the shaft. If you pull out easily on the crank and push in with the other hand against the door panel you may be able to see the clip, its shiny chrome.

You'll see a small ring on the inside of the crank where it meets the panel. That ring holds the crank in place. To remove the handle simple push the ring up and the handle will slide right off. Depending on the position of the crank the ring might have to be pushed up down or sideways. Hope that helps.

get a toyota handle its plastic but its stronger, the metal handle is going to be hard to interchange, the best thing to do is remove your handle and go to a junk yard and see which handles are the same, you can even put your handle on and see if it works on that car, hope this helps.
