Occasional starting problem. Car will turn over but will not start. Have changed batteries in the key and the car battery. After initial attempts, if left for 15 or so minutes it will magically spring into life, usually at the same time someone arrives to offer help! I have even ensured that there are no other car keys anywhere near it to eliminate the possibilty of another manufacturers key causing interference with the immobiliser. Could it be the immobiliser or fuel pump? The fact that it is intermittent and usually seems to happen when I need the car most is frustrating!

In some cases, the spare is just a key to get you in the vehicle in case you lock yourself out. The newer model vehicles have a "Chip" in the key and it is "Seen" by the lock. This helps to prevent theft. If you have a key made, you have to go to a dealer to get the info on how to program the new key to get it to start.
Good Luck and hope this helps.

HI,MARK,THE SIGNAL FROM YOUR KEY IS NOT GETTING TO YOUR IMMOBILIZER.THE PROBLEM IS MORE LIKELY AT THE PLUG ON THE READER COIL ON THE IGNITION.YOU WILL HAVE TO BEND THOSE TERMINALS SLIGHTLY CLOSED AND INSULATE THE WIRES SEPERATELY.THIS FEATURE IS PART OF THE VEHICLES SYSTEM UNFORTUNATELY,ANDY

Find where your fuel pump relay is and check for power there. Most alarm tech's and alarm system dis engages the fuel pump at there relay's.
Simple things to check is the fuse first then go for the relay and if everything there is working properly, it could be your alarm may have gone bad or your fuel pump it self.
Good luck and hope this helps

I have the same problem. Short term answer for me is to disconnect battery for 30 seconds and then the car will start. I have the infamous dashpod problem and the keys and eveything are coded into the dashpod so I'm hoping when I get mne replaced the immobilser problem will go to,at least the guys who work on my car reckon so.
With the regular need to disconnect he battery I leave the three screws for the battery cover finger tight and the battery contact loose enough to wriggle off. I can do it start to finish in a couple of minutes but is a mjor pain still.
