Cant locate coolant temp sensor on 02 jag s-type 3.0

Car overheating due to fan not working, got fan to work direct with jumpers but no current from connector to cooling fan module,from harness for fan I was told could be coolant temp sensor or relay.Fan control module for fan has relay no seperate relay in fuse box. Need to locate for sensor to replace or check sensor thank you

SOURCE: Cooling fan wont work

The water temp sensor is located near the thermostat housing. This sensor is what tells the ECM to turn the fan on/off. The water temp sending unit is located near the same area. You know you have the correct sensor is because the water temp sensor has a 2 prong plug. The water temp sending unit only has 1 prong.

Whoever told you the temperature gauge on cavalier is normal 3/4th is the lie. It is however in operating temperature range but on the hot side. Have you flushed your coolant and replaced thermostate, and gotten air vapor locks out.

SOURCE: can't locate the cooling fan sensor or relay.

the radiator fan relay is located behind and slightly lower than the r/f headlamp.best way to get to this is by removing right side of front fascia out enough to get behind it. this will give you acsess to the relay.i work at a jeep dealer and have done this many times.

SOURCE: I have a 2003 VW Jetta 1.8t that is overheating.

Assuming engine tune / mechanical condition is not the cause of the overheating:-
Ensure cooling fan is cutting in at the appropriate engine temperature - check operation of the fan controlling relay,
Ensure fan switching control temperature sensor is serviceable,
Ensure cooling system is filled properly, taking care to bleed out air where necessary,
Ensure coolant pressure cap is of correct rating and in serviceable condition,
Check coolant hose on suction side of waterpump is not softened and collapsing at engine revs above idle,
Ensure radiator core is not blocked or cooling airflow inhibited by insects etc.

What make's you think it's overheating ? You going by the gauge in the instrument cluster ? Is the check engine light on ? Any code's ? What's the real temp. of the engine , hook up a scan tool that can view live data and see what the coolant temp sensor is reporting to the PCM - engine computer , use a INFRARED THERMOMETER to test temp at top radiator hose .

Give the fan a direct 12v and ground with jumper wires. If it works prob just a relay if not prob needs a fan.

Need location for 02 jag s-type 3.0

the main problem with that car is corroded wiring first thing to check is the wiring behind the front bumper liner and the wiring to the fan module take off the front bumper under liner easy to get to the connectors there is 2 connectors and a small harness to the engine bay fusebox

2000 s type 4.0 engine overheating

This can be cause by a few things, the first thing to check would be with a cold engine open coolant cap, this may be on the radiator or the plastic bottle, make sure cooling system is full.

the next thing is to see if the fans come on when temp start to go past 3/4 on temp or if digital at 220.

the rest would need a shop to check. a bad coolant temp sensor or fan relay/module and last thermostat.

My 1996 grand prix started to register cooling temp of over 210 degrees. the motor doesn't seem to be overheating. I've replaced the water pump, thermostat, temp sensor, both fan relays, low coolant...

I would first check the cooling fans. To do this unplug the fans and use two jumper wires to hook them direct to the battery and test. If the fans are working I would have the radiator cleaned or purchase a new one. To clean the radiator take it to a professional and tell them you would like it rodded out. You can purchase a new one for about twice the price. I wouldn't worry about the low coolent sensor. By it being on it will not send a message that your vehicle is overheating. If you have changed everything that you say you have and the fans work and radiator is cleaned you may have a blown head gasket. If you have a blown head gasket you would see steam comming out of the tail pipes or water in the oil on dip-stick. Good luck.

2002 malibu runs hot.

Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket or maybe a cracked head.This can cause overheating and the check engine light to come on.The code for the o2 sensor is probably caused by coolant getting into the exhaust system and coating the sensor.The coolant fan may work but it cannot remove enough heat from the rad to make the engine cool off.Try some engine coolant stop leak to see if it will help.This maybe only a temperary fix.Let me know if you need more.MOE

94' Caprice Fans not turning on to cool motor = overheating motor

Do this test with the key in run but engine off unplug the ECT (engine coolant temp.) sensor, if the fans turn on (does this by default) the system is ok, if not then check the Fan relay. Also look for burning of the electrical connections to the cooling fans.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero overheating

I think you started out looking in the right places. Replacing the coolant, thermostat, relay and sensor are all fairly inexpensive.

I believe you either have blockage in the system (especially if you're using tapwater), or your water pump may be failing.

I would first either take it to a radiator shop and have them flush the cooling system out thoroughly, or else pick up a chemical flush kit and do it yourself. This involves more than just drain and refill.

If this doesn't work, your next step will probably be replacing the water pump. At almost 200k miles, it's probably about due anyway.
