You have a P0306 . This is a misfire code. Your vehicle's powertrain control module monitors crankshaft sensor to determine the "change in angular acceleration of the crankshaft" while running. Simply put, it expects to see the crank to speed up and slow down as each cylinder fires. If the profile of the signal detected doesn't show the expected signal, a code is set.I would look into the crankshaft position sensor as the culprit. Another sensor closely related to this sensor is the Camshaft position sensor. Both are associated with the timing and how rough and smooth the idle is. i hope this helps you in figuring this out.

What cause rough idle at low speed?

the code is for random misfire, multiple cylinders, as you've replaced the plugs and leads then I would check the coils and the fuel injection

Why would a 2000 Stratus rough idle then die?

if now it won`t start it could be a spark(ignition)problem, check for spark at the plug. you should check for a code in the pcm this may help, not all codes set the check engine light. could also be a bad fuel pressure problem.

I changed the oil and air filter on my 2002 Dodge Stratus. Also replaced spark plugs but it still idles rough while in gear.

sparkplug wires are a very common cause of misfires creating rough idling. as they age they tend to leak, meaning the soark jumps out of the casing to a point one the engine its not supposed to. Start there and if u have a check engine light see whats thats on for, its free at most autozones.
