Just changed oil 400 miles ago. oil is not showing up on dip stick. has no oil leaks. Oil pressure guage all over the place. Put 1 quart in and gauge stays between 30 and 60. Still dont show a lot of oil on stick.
What engine, & how much oil did you put in at change? What about filter was it changed as well? What engine, & how much oil did you put in at change? What about filter was it changed as well?

Did you say you just bought the truck? If so, have you ever seen oil on the dipstick or checked the oil. Maybe, the wrong dipstick? Did you buy it from a private party or dealer?
Add enough oil to get the stick reading back to the full line. Oil can't disappear...so either you are burning it or leaking . If you used more than two quarts in 400 miles, if it's burning it it definitely should be fouling plugs and smoking. If leaking, there has to be wet oil under the engine somewhere. Check everything over again to verify either condition.

Taking the oil from bottom sump is correct n yes putting it back via the dip stick is correct too. But b4 u guage, start up the car, engage gear with leg on the brakes if stationary, try reverse too 4 a while, legs on brakes again if stationary bring to neutral, still on hand brake up. Then guage to d required dip stick mark. Note: b4 starting up n engaging gears be sure u ve put in some oil first n pls do not let it over guage, go past the mark on dip stick, if it does drain a bit at a time till u get it right.
If it is full of oil and the oil pressure light is not on. I would drive it. This engine also has a oil level sensor that may be bad making the light to be on. 10w30 is ok but always put in what it calls for next time.
WELL NO OIL LEAKS.WARRANTY MIGHT COVER IT BUT YOU NEED TO SHOW ALL OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS.ALSO YOU HAVE TO USE GM MOTOR OIL LIKE 5W - 30 VALVOLINE USE GM OIL FILTERS.THEY WILL CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU BEEN KEEPING UP WITH SERVICE MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE SCHEDULES.CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL ON DIP STICK SHOULD BE AT FULL MARK LINE. THE CHEVY COBALT LS LT LTZ 2.2 ENGINE HOLDS 5.0 QUARTS OF OIL WITH NEW FILTER AND CHEVY COBALT SS SC HOLDS 6.0 QUARTS WITH NEW FILTER.IF OIL LEVEL LOOK OKAY.CHECK ON INTERNET FOR ANY RECALLS OR ANY TROUBLE WITH EARLY OIL PUMP FAILURE.
Water in motor oil causes that white foam, it is common. A small amount will not hurt the vehicle very much, and is normal for winter, in places with a high humidity.
It still may be the oil pump. At an idle it may not be putting out enough pressure to move the oil, but when you start driving, it turns faster and builds more pressure.
THE DURAMAX ENGINE INJECTORS GO BAD AND SPRAY TO MUCH DIESEL AND IT FILLS THE CRANK CASE UP 200 THOUSAND MILE WARRANTY COMMON PROBLEM DON'T DRIVE IT ANY MORE IF U HAVE BAD INJECTORS.
The white strip of fluid on the oil is a slight amount of coolant getting into the oil . The water could be from condensation on the dip stick. I would drain the oil and just put regular recommended oil in it with a new filter. I would pull the spark plugs and check for any coolant or oil residue on them. Then drive the vehicle a little and check the performance. If there is unusual noise from the engine then or blue smoke from the tailpipe the engine has internal damage.
Assuming the engine performance stays the same. There could be a fuel injector sticking intermitantly.
Hi there You should check the oil pressure sensor/wiring should be located around the oil filter area usually. If you can't see any obvious issues than post another question with you progress and ill help you work through it...
Sorry guess that would help lol 5.7 350 V-8 put in 5 quarts and new filter
