The rod from your out side door handle may have gotten unclipped or the rod is still clipped but has been bent and needs to be re bent straight. When you pull on the door handle, the rod connected to it moves down and pushed a leaver on the door lock. If the leaver was bent, the travel distance is shortened and does not push the leaver on the door luck to release it from the striker. Your going to have to remove the door panel and get to the out side door handle from the inside of the door and see if the rod has become unclipped or has been bent so you need to straighten it so it will move the door luck release leaver enough to work properly. If it is bent you don't have to remove it from the door handle, you should have enough room to do it with your fingers. Just take you time and note make sure your window is rolled up and take the ignition keys out of the ignition. Don't need to be listening to the radio and losing a finger. Good luck and keep me posted, if there is a Auto Zone, buy some extra door panel fasteners and they will also have the step by step to removing the door panel if you not sure how to do it and it's free.

1992 Ford Explorer Sport. Outside door handle not

Door handle seems loose and not connected? Then the plastic clip broke inside the door. Take off the door panel, 3 screws, and door lock cap and plastic insert around inside door handle. pry around the bottom first, and go up, when you reach the top, pull up, please be carefull to not break any more plastic. you will see a squarish opening midway up the door toward the latch. reach in and pull a rod toward the opening. You see a broken piece of plastic on the tip? if so take it off and get the replacement part for it at an autoparts store, install the new one and your set. I have broke to many of these so i ended up bending the end of the rod and using a nut to hold it in.:]

Changing outside door handle drivers door

first disconnect the negative side of battery and then open the door and start looking for small black screws or nuts then remove you find some hidden behind what look like little doors that you will need to remove with a screw driver becareful not to pry the plastic completely out of the door panel itself because if this happens you will have to figure out a way to repair so the panel will stay on the door get a thin pry bar to this job or a butter knife
