2003 Tiburon GT-V6, Air Bag light has come on and stays on, PLEASE tell me how to fix without going to the Dealer, Local Dealer has mixed service results

  • CocoaJohn Jun 19, 2009

    Thanks Ghost 4548,

If I have to go to the local dealer, guess I'll have to, but they have a so-so reputation, and were more than 35% higher costwise for last three "major" jobs: Timing Belt, Tune Up, and brakes

Sorry. The airbag system is propietary to Hyundai manufacturing. The Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) in the Supplememental Restraint System (SRS) are unique to Hyundai - unavoidable unless you can find a High-Scan Pro scanned to pull the code and get the wiring diagrams to solve this. Solution is the Dealer - pay the diag fee and they will give you an estimate of repairs (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc)... I know this isn't what you want to hear.. but it's Hyundai's system and only Hyundai has the solution.

Air bag light stays on in my 2004 hyundai tiburon

Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.
Go to www.hmaservice.com and register( Vehicle by VIN). Afterward, you have access to shop manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, etc. about your vehicle.Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.

Air Bag/Seat Belt lights are on

Exact same problem. Cost to replace seatbelt latch is $215 total. Called Hyundai and they said nothing could be done because my car was manufactured after the dates affected by the recall.

2003 Tiburon GT idles rough and stalls

First thing that comes to my mind is a vaccum hose. My girlfriends car did this and i fixed it with a piece of 3$ hose. If the light is on you can take it to your local parts store and they can hook it up to a device that gives them the trouble code. They can then tell you what is wrong with it. Do not let them sell you any parts until you confirm that this is the problem. They sold my g/f a 300$ mass air flow sensor when the vaccum hose was all that was needed. Have a friend rev up the engine while you listen for a whistling noise under the hood. If you hear one this could be your problem. You could also have electrical issues such as a bad coil pack.

Air Bag Light

Would seem strange that there would be no codes present if the light is constantly on. While the light is the air bags are disabled, so they will not deploy in an accident. I recommend taking it to a Dodge dealer for diagnosis and repair. If cost is an issue, tell them you just want a code test and advise on possible causes. They may have seen the problem before, and will usually be the quickest at diagnosis and repair.
