SOURCE: 1996 dodge ram 2500 van alternator not charging battery

do a continuity test from the large red wire on your alt to the battery, could be a fusible link or broken wire, sometimes a wire will break within the sheathing so it won't be visible by eye, check all conections for corrosion and either clean or repair

SOURCE: 2005 ram 1500 truck to replace a fuse for the

I drove the truck to my parent, then i try to start the truck and it won"t start/ Then said its the battery, but then i said let check the alternator. So I put my dads new battery from his jeep to my truck, then the truck started , I pulled out the battery cable then the truck stop. If the alternator was good the truck would still be on right!! Then I take the alternator to pepboy and say it pass the test , that it was good by the test machine, and to check the battery and the fuse that is for the alternator, I try to check it the fuse with a meter and seen okay but couldn't fin the one for the alternator on the truck. I hardly the drive the truck has 32000 mile the truck is a 2005 dodge ram 1500. I think is the alternator cause its making a wierd noise when accellerating. Just burn out and can't think straight.

SOURCE: just put in new fuel pump but my 94 caravan wont start, i checked the fuse its fine. the van makes a noise like it wants to start but it wont.

Hi Amy:
First, I suggest spray some starter fluid in the throttle and see if it starts and try to start. Also, confirm if... do you hear the pump boot up for about two or three seconds when you turn the ignition ON? If not, then you know it's a source problem or the pump itself.

After you mentioned replacing the pump, then it's safe to say it's a power supply problem to the pump, or at least that's where I would check first.

Check the plug-in under the van near the tank for corrosion and good connection, then check the ground wire right next to it on the frame rail, make sure it isn't corroded and has a good connection. Then work back to the fuel pump relay from their. The relay is either on the firewall by itself or in the fuse box under the hood.

If you do hear the pump boot up, then at this point, I would check for spark. Check the coil wire to the cap, then check a spark plug wire from the cap to see if you have spark at those two points.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

Diagnosis for battery terminal wrongly fitted

Do you know what make, model, year of vehicle it is? Was it a new/fully charged battery? If so then probably blew a few main fuses, ECU, alternator and other electricals.

Van wont start .checked alternator. fuses and brand new battery still wont start. van started acting u when fuse to rad fan went out. engine light came on but since we live in cold area never heated up....

I think you're over your head here. Take it to a professional mechanic and let her sort it out. Sounds like your alternator isn't putting out the correct voltage.

My brand new alternator wont stay charged

Check the charging relay if working. You can find it in the fuse box which is either in the engine compartment or under the dashboard on the drivers side legroom.

Van wont start

Just maybe the battery and alt were good. You did test them, before replacing didn't you? How about the starter solenoid, starter or ground connections or cables with too much resistance. Do a voltage drop test, on all grounds, you can get to.

MY 1995 JEEP BROKE DOWN ABOUT A YEAR AGO I JUST HAD 3 MAIN FUSES REPLACED A BRAND NEW BATTERY AND A BRAND NEW ALTERNATOR BUT THE BATTERY WON'T KEEP A CHARGE I HAVE A SHORT SOMEHWERE BETWEEN THE FUSE BOX...

Have you checked the charging of the alternator at the battery? (not by a parts store) Put a volt meter across the battery and check voltage while running. You should be showing 13.5v or better (not over 14) with accessories off, 12.5 or better with everything on including high beams. If you don't, chances are you may have a regulator problem. I don't know how you are checking draw, but you should be using an ammeter placed between either battery terminal and cable (cable removed from battery) Unplug each fuse and watch for a substantial drop in draw. That system will be the one with the problem...then, unplug each component served by that fuse (with fuse replaced) till the draw again drops. That will be the component that is pulling your battery down. You did check the simple stuff like sun visor lights and glove box light?

Alternator not exciting

Hi ' If you changed the battery and alternator,
Check the voltage at the red wire on the alternator. if there a less than 12 volt.
Check the fuse link, that goes in the starter positive bolt.
If the fuse is bad replace and recheck the charging system.
IF charging normal. good.
If not, che the fuse in the fuse box, "" cluster".
If the fuse is blow out, replace. and check again.

OK. I hope this work for you.
