Battery dies while car is running

My battery continues to die, i have checked the battery and the alternator and both are fine. i hve heard that a fuse can stop your battery from charging but i dot know which fuse to check......i have a 1996 mazda millinia 2.5 liter L class

it doesn't sputter before it shuts off, all the the electronics go out such as radio, and gauges. while driving the battery just dies, and i have to charge the battery and it cranks again. it will drive for about 2 days and then its dead again...it dies while driving, so doesn't that mean it is either the alternator or maybe a ground problem?

no i don't think it is any fuel or air related problem. due to the fact that while driving all of my electrical components die, my radio shuts off and the gauges die. the car then shuts off and wont crank because the battery is dead. I can jump it off and it will run but then the same problem happens again.

The alternator is what keeps your car running once it's cranked. It also recharges the battery for the next crank. It's either your alternator can't produce enough power to keep the car running. Your fuel filter is dirty. Your air filter isn't allowing air flow. If it sputters before it dies it could also be the O2 sensor.

Yes, that does seem to be an electrical problem. I had a loose ground in the engine compartment once that caused the car to die, but did not affect the battery's charge.

It's your alternator that may be the problem. Your thinking of the battery is wrong because everything on a running car is run off the alternator. Only if the alternator dies will the car continue to run off the battery-but not for long if any accessories are used. So the alternator runs everything AND recharges the battery until it is needed again to start the car.
Your alternator is barely keeping up with running the car, and is not apparently doing much to recharge the battery. Have the alternator tested.

I would not say for certain it is the alternator-there may be a problem in your a/c circuit. But first test the alternator...BTW, Kinsha, pulling off the neg. cable to check an alternator is as old school as me, but on modern electronics it is considered bad practice-electronics don't like little surges or peaks of power. Buy an inexpensive digital multimeter-it is fun learning as you go.

These are all signs of a bad alternator. The car is running off of only the battery. The alternator charges the battery and keeps the car running. When the alternator quits charging the car will run fine until the battery dies. Then you can jump the battery and charge it, and the car will run fine until all of the electronics and lights run the battery down again.

Hi
If you have a new battery and it dies it means that the alternator is bad. The alternator is what replentishes the battery and run the car while you drive it. A simple test is as follows start the car, while the motor is running discinnect the (red) positive cable from the battery. The motor should continue to run....If it shuts off it means that the alternator is bad. The battery is only used to start the car! After its started it runs off of the alternator which also constantaly recharges your battery. Have any questions email me at [email protected]

Check the battery cables at both ends. There's a good chance there's corrosion preventing the charge from the alternator from charging the battery. If the cables are fine then check the connection at both the solenoid and the alternator and make sure they are clean and grounded.
