My tailgate to my van seems to be unlocking and locking on its own...I had this problem a while ago but it stopped working...I figured the motor went...now today, I got out of the van and noticed the gate light was on on my dash..i went and closed it, and then it all started all over again...is it the relay on the gate? the motor? or ?????
Sensor problem maybe . You don't say what year the vehicle is . Computer controlled (BCM) body control module . Have it check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes first .
Door Locks Go Crazy 1
Door Locks Go Crazy 2
SOURCE: power door locks do not work
the reason the locks dont work more then likely there is a code stored in the bcm for a lock output circuit normally caused by one if not both of the sliding door acuators. even if you change the acuators the locks still will not work until the code is cleared.
SOURCE: Back (tailgate) door will not unlock and open
I bought a used 04 and when I took delivery I couldn't open the tailgate.
The non-Ford dealer was clueless when it came to helping me so I looked at it myself.
There is a small plastic access cover right above the mechanism on the inside of the hatch. It is about 1.5" by 1.5" square. Pop it off and drown the lock with WD40 to see if you can free it iu.
I finally got mine to open and then removed the inner panel to partially reveal the mechanism. It looked like it was brought up from the Titanic. It was completely rusted.
Seems that this model has a problem with water getting into the lock as it pools in the area where the catch is.
$167.00 later, tax in, and the problem is fixed as long as you continue to spary the h_ _ _ out of it with WD40

First to turn off the alarm you simply put the key into the drivers door and turn it to unlock the door twice, this is the factory setting to turn off activated Volkswagen alarm. As for the power locks they are air activated, in the trunk near the latch there should be a small electric motor that drives a small air pump with air lines running to all your locks. If this electric motor as worn out your locks will not operate, simple fix replace the motor. I'd try a used one first from a scrap yard to make sure but always check to see if there is power to the motor (you will need another person with a test light to perform this job). Let me know if this works. Vdubs 4-ever !
SOURCE: tailgate failure on honda accord tourer 2004
Maybe a little late here but i have a fix for this after turning down my dealers generous offer of a 750gbp fix i did some extensive googling and found this.... With your ignition on open the tailgate using the catch inside then turn off ignition and disconnect the battery for a minute. Reconect the battery and turn on ignition and let the warning lights go through their cycle. With the ignition still on shut the tailgate and hey Presto should be as good as new.
SOURCE: tailgate open/ lock latch in closed position so
Annoying, but easy to fix: Actuate the opening handle and manually rotate the latch to the open position.
