The speedometer is its own computor (module) and can display error for several differnt issues. It can be a speed senser, trans output speed senser, or even an internal error with the proccessor inside the cluster. Best to have it scanned to determine.

SOURCE: No Bus Error

All the modules are connected together to communicate with each other via the PCI bus. It is possible that one of the modules is pulling the bus down.Since the vehicle won't start it could be any one of the modules. It will be a process of elimination to find the faulty one by disconnecting them one at a time. Here are a few, powertrain control module (the one you replaced) Instrument cluster, overhead console, anti-lock brakes, airbag. Since the cluster unplugged wont read anymore, just try to start the vehicle to see if that was the one. Otherwise see if the odometer message of "no bus" goes away after each one is unplugged.

Why does the odometer show error on it when I am driving it?

The IPC calculates the mileage based on the vehicle speed signal circuit from the PCM. The odometer will display ERROR if an internal IPC memory failure is detected.

Error on odometer on 2005 dodge dakota

Very incomplete question, but I guess you are saying the speedo reads incorrect speed. If the speedo is cable driven, lube the cable. It may be electrical though, in which case either there is a bad connection somewhere or the speed sensor is bad.

How do I check the instrument cluster on a 1996 dodge Dakota?

i believe it has a vehicle speed sensor in the rear diff that is probably your problem as the sensor you replaced in the transmission was probably the output shaft speed sensor
