SOURCE: engine raced with sudden loss of power climbing hill

Sounds like the transmission went south on you..(surge and power loss was the trans not sending power to the wheels, allowing the engine to freewheel as the cruise applied more power to try and maintain speed).Depending upon how high the rpm's went when it let go, it may have damaged the engine, but that remains to be determined...Your mechanic will likely concentrate on that before putting a transmission on a wounded engine. The one grain of hope in what you said is that it remained running while you had the a/c on waiting for a tow. Good Luck!!

SOURCE: Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Loss

a bad cam sensor will cause vehicle to shut off while driving, and cause a hard time starting. but this usually sets a trouble code p0340. scan vehicle to see if any codes come up. after it is fixed, erase codes with a obd2 scanner. if you do not have one, you can go to any auto parts store and they will erase codes for free.

I think you may have a problem with your electric assisted power steering motor. Is the loss in power only when your are making sharp turns to the right or left?
Do you hear any load noises or squeling sounds?
You should have it inspected, Don't want you to lose control while driving.

SOURCE: We have an intermittent problem with the

This is a bad connection within the printed circuit of the instument cluster. It seems to be worse in higher temps, like being in the sun with the windows up for several hours. (I feel it should be a recall) Sometimes a firm tap on the face of the cluster will bring it back, but the only solution at this point is to repace the cluster.

Why do I have an intermittent problem with ABS and power steering lights?

Bad or loose intermittent wire connections to and from sensors. Some unauthorised mechanic has been working on the car? Take it back and talk to the service manager, or the shop owner.

My 1998 chevy blazer died going down the highway, what is wrong?

Multiple possibilities. Will start with easiest/cheapest. You don't mention check engine light (that would give codes), so I'll go with the same issue we've had with newer Blazers. That would be the ECM in the distributor. When ours started going bad, it would cut-off intermittently. Well one day the intermittent was terminal. Anew ECM, for the 2.8 V6 (1987) is approx 45.00. You would have to price it for your vehicle based on year and engine size. The worst case scenario is loss of timing gear. (That happened on our 67 Buick with 300 V8). Another thought is what happened to a friend. He's putzing on down the highway when his 88 Pontiac Grand Am simply quit. His computer had bit the big one. Those are the only things that come to mind, other than running out of gas or your alternator had quit charging your battery and the battery finally lost enough power to spark the plugs.

My power steering in my toyota camry 1992 is very hard to turn however it will be hard to turn for a couple days and then all the sudden something happens (dont know what) and it comes back I had it...

Be systematic about this
- you will have checked the fluid level in the separate P/S reservoir
- check the pump drive belt for tightness. Intermittent slipping can cause this symptom
- if your car has cooling fans hydraulically driven by the P/S pump (some Camrys do, some not) the fault may lie in that circuit. Look to see the fans run when hot and when you have no steering assist for a clue
- is there any difference between left and right when hard steering? If so it points to a faulty control valve

- air in the system will cause this intermittent behavior, but you said the air has been purged out? If not, jack up the whole front end, start the engine, and turn the steering wheel fully lock to lock a few times, checking the fluid level meanwhile
- then, it could be the overpressure relief valve in the pump is faulty. This can be replaced without replacing the pump. You will need a pressure gauge to check this, best done by a steering shop
- then, the seals in the steering rack could be worn, but the loss of power steering should not be just intermittent if so.
