320 CLK - Air Conditioner/Heater won't work . . . compressor dead?

While a/c was running, started smelling "hot" smell . . . a/c died . . . a/c won't work (will not blow). Heater won't blow either . . . does this mean the compressor is dead? Would a dead compressor kill both the a/c and heating capability? Thanks!!

Probably burnt the compressor out. for ac work it pays to go to a pro that does ac for a profession especially with Mercedes. one thing done wrong could backfire to mega bucks..

SOURCE: mercedes clk 320 will not start

i have a 2000 clk320. it would not start sometimes, the engine would crank but it wont start. but after an hour or so it would start. sometime i'll get somewhere park, and come out an hour later and the engine would not start. if your having the same problem, take it to autoparts store ex: autozone or kragen. they could check your battery for free. and if its not the battery. than it could either be your fuel pump. or the crank position sensor. good luck. hopefully this help.

SOURCE: air conditioner isn't blowing cold air

Could be a number of things...electrical connections causing the compressor not to run. Turn on AC and turn your thermostat all the way to cool...now visually check to see if compressor is engaged and not just free wheeling. Most likely you lost your refridgerant due to leak in the system...would need to find leak and repair then have your system re-charged with refridgerant. Best case scenario...your system just needs a charge of refridgerant due to not having enough.

What could it be when my 94 Ford Ranger puts out a wood burning smell when I turn on the a/c but goes away after I turn the a/c off for a few minutes and then turn it back on.

A closed garage is no barrier to a determined common house mouse that can squeeze through any hole big enough for a pencil...

A wood burning smell is a first. It is worth bearing in mind the heater blower motor resistor gets hot, even hotter if all the connections to it aren't A1 brilliant and it is for that reason the resistor is fixed in the heater air intake so the incoming air helps keep it cool.
If the incoming air is restricted because the cabin filter is choked or the fan motor is running slow due to a problem the resistor can become very hot.

The common smell from aircon is known as sick car syndrome, though that is definitely not a wood burning smell. Sick car syndrome is caused by bacterial growth around the aircon evaporator and tends to smell like old socks and is treated by flooding the area with oxygen from a proprietary aircon deodorising treatment.

One final possibility is a sweating heater matrix. Once a wet heater matrix is warm the antifreeze content of the coolant can cause a variety of odours, depending on who is doing the sniffing. Mostly I think it is a spicy smell like my grandfather's pigmeal bin. One customer described the smell as like gravy...

Why when I start my car is there an odor coming from vents that smells like something is burning, and my Air Conditioner still blows, but it only blows out hot air. 2008 Chrysler Sebring. Help?

have an accredited ac shop as an ac cannot produce hot air only cold air so that means that the ac is not working (leaks low on gas etc). The hot air is from the heater in the car and the smell is probably wire overheating or the resistors are burning.

2004 Chrysler Voyager, had an acrid burning smell and a lot of smoke when heater is turned on, also a rattling/squealing noise, all stops when heater turned off?

you more than likely have a sciezed air con compressor. most modern cars have climate control which uses air con even when demisting and when engaged the electric clutch tries to engage but the pump itself will not turn, clutch will get red hot and burn your belts

When I turn my heater and defroster on, a bad smell starts and the windows fog up but the air is hot.

This may be due to a bad heater core or dirty core with a plugged water drain, first see if the a/c works. turn it on and see if the air gets cold and if the ac compressor works.

The way the defrost works to keep windows from fogging up is that when the front defroster is tuned on the ac should also be on, on most cars when you go to defrost it will turn ac on automatic. the system then uses hot and cold air to remove the moisture in the air to avoid window fogging. if your a/c is not working then that may cause window to fog, but if you are also getting a smell then the drain that lets out condensation may be plugged and then water builds up and also mold from always being wet and when heat is on you smell that.

i want you to run the defrost and when windows fog up wipe window with hand and see if it is greasy . if it feels oily then you may have a bad heater core, the core leaks coolant out and steam and causing windows to fog up with a flim of grease.

I've had my 320 CLK convertible for 7 years, its a 1999 v reg. Drove it 25 miles, turned it off to go to a shop, come out and it wouldn't start. Lights work, radio works, dash lights all on but...

ignition switch contact or starter motor given up the ghost ,try a jump start and see if that works ,do the lights go dim when you try to start it??if so then its a flat battery or a old battery thats just died on you. These vehicles do have a big ignition lock in the dash and these just dont go wrong like a VW but its possible?

The air conditioning in my 2005 T&C stopped working. Right before it stopped there was a "burnt" smell coming through the vents. What happened?

No air coming from air conditioning vents
  1. Check the air conditioner fuse and replace as necessary.
  2. Air conditioner system discharged. Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by an MVAC certified technician, utilizing approved recovery/recycling equipment. Repair as necessary.
  3. Air conditioner low pressure switch defective. Replace switch.
  4. Air conditioner fan resistor pack defective. Replace resistor pack.
  5. Loose connection, broken wiring or defective air conditioner relay in air conditioning electrical circuit. Repair wiring or replace relay as necessary. Air conditioner has a smell when used
    1. The air conditioner evaporator drain hose is blocked or partially restricted, allowing condensation to build up around the evaporator and drainage tray. Clear the drain hose where it exits the passenger compartment.
    2. Check compressor clutch wiring, electrical connections and compressor clutch, and repair or replace as necessary.

Air conditioner smell

Every single grand am I have owned does this!! They seem to have a gas smell when running the ac, or if it is extremely hot outside..It was the coil pack on 2 of mine. The extra load of the ac..the other was it makes the car run hotter. I just rigged my radiator fan to run constantly and the smell went away.

2001 hyundai accent, horrible smell from vents

Did you buy the car new ? could it have been in flood watter? if it wear a dead mouse, I'm sure the smell would have been gone by now, , is the car losing any antifreeze, is there any mustier or wet spots on the floor? if you are losing antifreeze it would most likely be the heater core. otherwize if you run the A/C could be dampness from the drain being plugged up if A/c.is working properly on hot days should see watter on grownd under car front passenger side, has there been a windshield put in that you know of? hope this helped feel free to ask should you have any moor info. Thank You.

Floors in the front are wet and the car is starting to smell

Three possibilities--the windshield is leaking water, the heater core is leaking antifreeze (should smell like antifreeze), or the air conditioner evaporator (near the heater core) has a plugged drain tube and the water condensed out of the warm air is running back into the cab. Hope this helps!
