I just bought a 2001 aurora. The battery was dead when we bought it, so we drove it to a parts store and installed a new battery. After starting the car and preceeding down the road, the car only accelerated to about 20 mph and wont rev above about 2500rpm and has no power. any thoughts

the battery in the jag im workin on looks like a bus battery,the car was dead...Ijumped it...it took about 10 mins. charging b4 it would start...drove it 4 about 5 miles and all my lites went out[inside car]started runnin then stalled....alternaters bad...is the new battery u bought 4 it the rite one?try checkin you alternater ????

That suggests that the problem is in the harness, something in the connector or wiring is causing an open circuit. You will need to have the circuit tested to find the fault. Ford alternators have known connector issues & new aftermarket connectors are readily available at most auto parts stores.

Yes your brother is partially right. the code says that it is the sensor circuit. so test the sensor and the wires. Does it seem to turn over faster than usual? if so your suspicions would also be correct (timing belt).

You didn't mention how far if any you drove since installing battery. First jump start, put voltmeter in battery while idling - should read 13.1v-15.8v. Anything less, replace alternator. If good, load test new battery.

Welcome to the world of BMW's. return the car to the seller. you got a bad one. You got an electrical short draining the battery. Bring a blank check and sign it over to the dealer. They're going to have to run through the entire electrical system to find the short. That work alone is worth more than the a used up 2001 325i.

you ay have a faulty alternator have it check and serviced

check the saftey neutral switch. sounds like it is out of adjustment or has a bad spot in it.located on trans.

Something is shorting out (drawing power but not returning it to the battery)
Make sure you don't have any accessories plugged in and running or anything else running or on when you go to bed at night as this would draw down the power!
I'm assuming you have to jump start it every mourning.
Is that correct?
If so the new battery and alternator will be strained and go again soon!
Go to an auto parts store like Advanced Auto Parts and have your battery and alternator tested (they do this for free) and may be able to verify that you have a power draw somewhere!
A jury rig fix would be to put a battery disconnect (available at any auto parts store and pretty easy to install) at the terminal to the battery and disconnecting every night but that won't fix the power draw.
What was the original problem that led you to change the battery and alternator?
