yes can be done but will need some mods and programming ------and an s-10 trans tunnel will need mods --------this is a full size but shows some of whats needed for swap also check the s-10 forums for better sources on mods ------https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/129-1004-1977-chevy-4l60e-to-4l80e-transmission-swap/ -----https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/1307-4l80e-transmission-swap/-
EPC? Pressure control solenoid for the transmission. 4L80E. The dealer doesn't have one? No luck at parts stores. I get trans parts from a place called MId-States Transmission parts. I know they have one. 1-800-325-6772
If your 4L80E is factory stock, the worry is not so much horsepower as how much torque you're putting through it. You really don't want to go over 500lb ft of torque on a factory transmission, and you don't want to do that often. If you want to use nitrous, you need to rebuild the transmission first, and have the builder use all the hardened parts he can find, all Alto Red Eagle frictions and Kolene full-thickness steels throughout, plus The Beast sun gear reaction shell. and a Kevlar, not Alto Red or carbon fiber extra-wide power band, and the Transgo valve body separator plate. This makes an unbelievable transmission.
Yes they will swap out nicely, the years where they made the change is in 1997 and the only difference is the transmission end housing has a different bolt pattern but has the same internal parts. You may also want to swap out the servo's with a corvette servo. The cost is around $45.00 and can be done without dropping the transmission pan, this will make your transmission shift firmer and will have less clutch slip[ between gear shifts. Good luck and hope this information helps.
Bad transmission, that's not a good answer. Bring it to the shop [so we can guess around], not a good answer either.
A good mecahanic will respond with something about the solenoids.
I have repaired the 4L80E on my tow truck, I have to do that almost every year, the last time it ran perfectly but when I push the pedal to the metal, it shifted from 3rd gear to 2nd and stays on 2nd gear until I turn the ignition off and start again.
The transmission was totally rebuilded so the answer "Time to rebuilt the transmission" is not acceptable.
I took it back to the shop and the mechanic replaced both solenoids A and B, that was the only thing that hasnt been replaced before, it was just a guess but works
So, I am not a mechanic but my sugestion is to replace the two speed sensors and solenoids before you take the tranny out of the car and be carefull who are you taking the transmission to because guessing is not always the best course of action
The two speed sensors are easy to replace, the solenoids are inside of the valve body but you may be able to replace them without removing the transmission from the truck
I can tell you what engine is suppose to be in it by the VIN. I can tell you what transmission you have if you can describe the shape of the bottom pan. As far as the engine that you have that is tough. The engine size should be stamped on the rear of the engine near the distributor near where the engine and transmission meet. Rectangular pan 4 speed= 700r4 Pan like the state of Illinois, 3 speed= TH400 Squared off in front, tapers on both sides to the rear and slopes up to the rear, 4 speed=4L80E These are the only transmissions that were factory installed in a 1992 C1500. If it looks different let me know. You never know what someone has installed.
are torque converters different on diesel vs gas?
